I met John at St. Mary Catholic Church. His daughter went to Sunday School with me. John and his wife used to sit in the back of the 4:30 Mass on Saturday afternoon with a group of friends that I sit with. John was one of the most caring, thoughtful, loving person I've met. He always talked to me before Mass started and wanted to know what I was up to. I will never forget the friend he was to me!!!

To Faye and Stacey, I'm very sorry about the passing of John. He was such a loving, kind, family man. I only knew him from St.Mary's Church. Family meant every thing to him. I know he is smiling down over us all. I know he will be okay. He is in good hands. Please know that I will be praying for you and your family. If you need anything, you can always call me. Love always, Amy Decker( the bald girl that sits in the very last row at 4:30 mass).

It has been a long road Stacey! I only met your dad once, but reading these wonderful entries makes me wish he was MY high school history teacher! He touched a lot of lives and isn't that what it is all about?
I pray for you and your family. It is a terribly difficult thing to lose a parent, but it is wonderful that you have had this much time with him and he knew you as an adult and knew all of your children. what a true blessing . God bless all of you

Faye, Robbie, Stacey and family, I am truly sorry for your loss. John was a wonderful teacher and coach, and truly embodied what an educator should be. He did not dwell on possessions, but focused on his family and work. I had the chance to coach with him at St. Mary and was truly awed by his talent. He had the unique gift of being able to link individual fundamentals with overall strategy in order to win, however he was at his best in the way he related to the people around him. He made everyone better: students, players, coaches, spectators, parents, and even the guy sweeping the gym floor. I am truly thankful for knowing John. His confidence allowed me to achieve my goals in basketball and kept me on track through college. It didn't matter what sort of inspiration I asked for, John always gave me more than I merited. I only wish every young person had at least one teacher like this in their life.

Uncle John you may be gone but never forgotten. I do not remember a time that you were not my uncle. I remember spending the night with you and aunt Faye when you were first married and going to church with you. I thank you for all of your encouragement academically and athletic for myself as well as my children. We may live far but you were and always will be a very special man in my life. I love you always, Terrie

Just learned that my favorite teacher in high school has passed away. Mr. Kaelber was the best! I had him for OWA and history my freshman and sophomore year. Us OWA (Occupational Work Association), kids were considered "dorks" to the school, but he made us all feel special and that our jobs around the school were important. He even came to my home for dinner with me and my parents once. He did that with other students too. Not many teachers take time to do that. He was old school. He was sooo passionate about history! He's part of the reason I love that subject. Wish I'd of got to see him after graduating. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He spoke about his children and wife everyday in class. They meant a lot to him. Good man overall. RIP Mr. Kaelber. ??
