Robert WERNER Obituary

WERNER, Robert George
'Bob'
Bob was born in Norfolk, Nebraska, on February 1, 1927. He passed away peacefully in his home on December 1, 2012, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorethy (Dot), sons, Steve and Greg, daughters-in-law Julia and Vernna and honorary daughter-in-law Vivian Hall, grandchildren Aaron, Loren, Justin, Jake, and Lisa, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and their children, and his sister, Betty Dumelle of Panorama City, CA. He was predeceased by his sister Peggy and two grandsons, Mark and Robert.

Bob moved with his family from Nebraska to Van Nuys CA in 1938. It was in Van Nuys that Bob met his future wife, Dot, at age 14. They have been together ever since. Bob graduated from Van Nuys High School, after which he joined the Merchant Marines during WWII. After the War he and his family moved to the Placerville/Pollock Pines CA area, where he and Dot ran two small businesses. In the mid-1950's, Bob went to work at Aerojet, where he worked as a Supervising Engineer in the Test Area. At this same time the family moved to Fair Oaks, CA. In Fair Oaks, Bob was a Little League coach for eight years for his sons' teams. Bob retired from Aerojet after 30 years in the mid-1980's. Bob and Dot led a very active 'retired life' RVing, cruising, and enjoying their permanent camp sites at Tahoe Timber Trails outside of Truckee. Bob served for eight years on the Board of Directors for Tahoe Timber Trails, primarily as the President of the Board. In 2004, they sold their home of 47 years in Fair Oaks and moved to Heritage Park in North Natomas. Bob and Dot made many new friends in their new home.

A memorial for Bob's family and friends is planned for Saturday, December 29, 2012, between 1:00 and 4:00 PM at the Heritage Park Ballroom, 2481 Heritage Park Lane, Sacramento, CA 95835. In lieu of flowers a donation in Bob's name to VITAS Hospice Care, 2710 South Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 100, Sacramento, CA 95833, would be greatly appreciated.

Grandpa,
Through the years I have remembered many things. As COusin Aaron said, the xmas gatherings were always a highlight for me. Sitting around the dining tables, waiting for the gifts.
Walk in the Light and rest well, Grandpa.

Grandpa, you will be missed and loved. Given the season, I remember Xmas morning and all the grandkids running down the hall and awaiting Grandpa Santa handing out all the gifts. I can only hope to become a dad/grandfather like you. Given you and Dad as my role models, I am off to a good start.

Rest in Peace Grandpa
