Harold English Obituary

Harold G. English

Federalsburg-Harold G. English of Federalsburg passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Mallard Bay Nursing Home in Cambridge. He was 94. He was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Brookview, Md., the son of the late Howard Gravenor English and Brooksie Thomas English.

He served the United States in the Army during World War II when he was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. He also engaged in the Korean War. He retired as staff sergeant after 22 years of service. He worked as a Peoples Insurance Agent, and for M&L GMC doing auto body repairs. He was a member of Hurlock American Legion Post 243 and was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Lily Mae Stack English, whom he married on Feb. 4, 1939; a daughter, Sandra K. Ovens of East New Market; a son, Walter H. English Sr. and his wife, Janet, of Rhodesdale; two grandchildren, Cindy Foster (Mark) of Trappe and Walter H. English Jr. of Hurlock; stepgrandson, Mike Ellingsworth and his wife, Tammy; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy Foster and Kelsey Foster; three stepgreat-grandsons, Bradley, Austin and Conor; sister-in-law, Reba English of Seaford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas, Melvin, Howard M. and Robert English, and a son-in-law Ronald C. Ovens.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at 2 p.m. at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Rev. Richard Bridge officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2. Interment with military honors will follow at Unity-Washington Cemetery in Hurlock.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Woodland United Methodist Church, 5123 Woodland Church Road, Seaford, DE 19973.
