Herbert Groff Obituary

Herbert L. Groff Jr.

Snow Hill-Herbert L. Groff Jr., 81, passed away peacefully at his Snow Hill home on Friday, May 23, 2014. Born May 26, 1932 in Girdletree, he was the son of the late Herbert L. Groff Sr. and the late Molly Mills Groff.

He was a proud veteran who served in the Air Force for four years and the Maryland Army National Guard for an additional three years. He then began a 37-year career with Moore Business Forms in Snow Hill.

An avid Orioles baseball fan, he also enjoyed listening to his i pod, reading and sitting on his front porch, greeting people passing by. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Makemie Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Joanne Trader Groff; one son, Herbert L. "Buddy" Groff III of Ocean City; two daughters, Cindy Cook and Wendy Myers and her husband, Jon, all of Snow Hill; five grandchildren, Bobby, Taylor and Haley Cook and Reagan and Riley Myers, all of Snow Hill; one brother, Ron Groff of Pocomoke City; one sister, Anna Sirman of Snow Hill; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends, who were so important to him.

A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Debra Latture, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church, where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church cemetery. In honor of the loving care provided to Herb, donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.

I had not seen Herb in a few years but I remember the many funny stories he told and his contagious laugh. He will be missed by many and please find comfort that he is in a much better place.
