Marion Ellis Obituary

Marion F. "Bud" Ellis

DELMAR-Marion F. "Bud" Ellis, 82, of Delmar went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

He was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Delmar, Del., a son of the late William James Ellis and Mamie Elizabeth (Wilkins) Ellis.

Bud proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army. His career as a dietary officer for the state of Maryland took him many places, such as the Maryland State Police Barracks, Poplar Hill and ECI. He retired after 33 years of service. He was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church of Delmar, where he was recently honored as an honorary deacon and held various positions within the church through the years. He had a true servant's heart and was never truly satisfied unless he was helping someone. Harvest Ministries in Delmar held a special place in Bud's heart, where he was past president and unselfishly spent countless hours serving the community. He was a faithful New York Yankees fan and a longtime coach of the church softball team. He also had an appreciation for nature and a special collection of birdhouses.

He is survived by two sons, Mike Ellis and his wife, Peggy, of Laurel and Jeffrey Ellis and his wife, Colleen, of Salisbury; a grandson, Michael Troy Ellis and his wife, Ashley, of Pennsylvania; two great-grandsons, Michael Bradey Ellis and Noah Harrison Ellis; a sister, Louise Hearn and her husband, Richard, of Delmar; several nieces and nephews; and a host of great friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 52 years, Margarett Kathline "Kathy" Ellis; three brothers, Calvin Ellis, George Ellis and William Ellis Jr; and four sisters, Mildred O. Parrish, Elizabeth Jones, Beulah Brumbley and Pearl Ellis.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Delmar, where family and friends may call from noon-1. The Revs. Barry Devine and James Riddle will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Riverside Cemetery in Libertytown.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to First Baptist Church of Delmar, Deacon Fund, P.O. Box 200, Delmar, DE 19940.

Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.

Although I only knew Bud for a short period of time, it was a lifetime of friendship. Bud was truly a man after God's own heart. My life has been forever richly blessed, I thank God for crossing our paths. He and Kathy will remain in my heart forever. I love you both, and until we meet again.....

Although I knew Bud for just a short period of time, it was a lifetime of friendship that he bestowed upon my husband and I. Bud was truly a man after God's own heart. My life has been richly blessed by knowing him. I thank God for crossing our paths. He will forever remain in my heart. I love you Bud, until we see each other again...

From the time that Troy introduced me to this wonderful man I never felt like I was just a girlfriend. He always made feel like family and loved us with all of his heart. We will miss you pop pop!!!

Please accept my deepest sympathies on your loss. Mr. Ellis, and his cooking, were deeply appreciated by my father, the late Maj. A.J. O'Neill, former director of Poplar Hill Pre-Release. Dad was known to skip dinner on more than one occasion, because of having second helpings of Mr. Ellis's lunchtime creations at PHPRU! I'm sure the void left in your family is immense, but please try to find some comfort in knowing that Mr. Ellis will be remembered by hundreds of people in the community. Wishing you peace.

It was awesome being Bud's pastor for a year and a half. My wife and I loved his heart for people in need. He is with Jesus because he accepted Jesus' full payment for his sin and he served Jesus out of thankfulness for his salvation.
