Norman Tilghman Obituary

Norman Patrick Tilghman

Salisbury—Norman Patrick Tilghman, 54, of Salisbury passed away at his residence Friday, June 21, 2013. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Ella Frances Smith Tilghman Meadows of Greenwood, Del., and the late Ronald Norman Tilghman.

Pat was currently employed with Blind Industries as safety supervisor and CAD. Prior to that he worked as court commissioner for Wicomico County Court House. His passion was martial arts which he taught for over 25 years in Delaware and Maryland. He was just recently inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in Philadelphia. He loved spending time relaxing and meditating in his Oriental sanctuary and labyrinth that he designed and created at his home. Pat graduated from Glasgow High School and received associate and bachelor's degrees and many certificates from several colleges.

He is also survived by two brothers, Ronald Wesley Tilghman of Conway, S.C., and Mark Edward Tilghman of Murrels Inlet, S.C.; two nieces, Tonia Nicole Bozorth of Greenwood and Serenity Renee "Saffie" Tilghman of Murrels Inlet; a nephew, Wesley Ronald Tilghman; a cousin, Brenda Lee Flores and her husband, Alberto "Hoppy," of Salisbury; and several great-nieces and nephews and many friends.

A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, June 26, at 2 p.m. at the Greenwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Harbaugh officiating.

Pat's contribution to martial arts was his passion for all children to learn. As a legacy for Pat, R.S. Mitchell will donate a scholarship a year to a child in Patrick's honor.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Patrick's memory to Cane Fu Foundation, 305A Union Ave., Salisbury, MD 21801 or the American Lung Association, 211 E. Lombard St., No. 260, Baltimore, MD 21202.

I had the privilege of being a student of Master Tilghman. He was a great teacher and had quite the sense of humor! He will me missed.

My main contact with Pat was through the commissioners office and I found him to be fair and impartial to everyone taken to him. This also gave me the opportunity to visit his martial arts center on Eastern Shore Drive. To Ron and his family. I am sorry for your loss. You have my deepest sympathy.

Pat, you were very respected by our family. Your martial art classes were a blessing to all that we still talk abut today. R.I.P. Pat.
