Rafael "Ray" Antonio Gutierrez
Laurel—Rafael "Ray" Antonio Gutierrez, 82, of Laurel, died Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
He was born in Puerto Rico, a son of the late Rafael A. Gutierrez and Delfina Bartolomei Gutierrez.
Ray proudly served his country in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. He worked in the steel industry for many years as a supervisor and as a consultant in his later years. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He loved to travel and enjoyed being outdoors planting trees and watching birds. He was an avid sports fan and a faithful Washington Redskins fan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Brenda Moran Gutierrez; a son, John Rafael Gutierrez, who is stationed in Germany; a sister, Dolores Roles of Silver Spring; step-children, Donald Tieder, Ronald Tieder, Jr. and Donna Tieder; and several step-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Delmar. Interment with military honors will follow at Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
