Alan Farkas Obituary

Farkas, Alan J.
Rochester: My loving husband Alan, father to our beautiful daughter Lara, passed away in peace at his home on October 3. A talented artist and photographer, he was committed to his family & friends, his work & to life. A graduate of RIT, he went on to a successful career which showcases both his commercial photography and his fine art work. He was rock solid in his relationships with family and friends and true to himself and others. He will be missed. He is survived by his devoted wife Wendi, precious daughter Lara, loving parents John and Phyllis Farkas, in-laws Frank and Blanche Grosser and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann and Kathe and her husband Pepe, adopted sister Dayna Orione-Kim, her husband Joon and their daughter Noelani and numerous extended family and family of friends. His home is open to visitors on Saturday, October 4th. A celebration service, also at his home, will be held on Sunday, October 5th, 2 PM. In lieu of sending flowers, the family welcomes contributions to his daughter Lara's education fund.

dear wendi - I am so sorry for your great loss. You and your daughter have been in my thoughts. I remember sitting with you and Alan at Lisa's wedding and just seeing both of your eyes light up when you spoke of the love of both of your lives - your daughter. I just thought that was so wonderful that this little girl could bring so much joy to two people. I pray for better days ahead for you both.
Take care.

Dear Wendy,

I unfortunately never had the opportunity to work with you or Alan when I lived in Rochester, but I had always heard so much about him. I heard from a friend today about his passing. I just want you to know that although I did not have the pleasure of getting to know him personally or professionally, I am very sad for your loss. You and your family are in my heart and I wish you all the strength to move forward from this.

Take care.

Hi Wendi

This note is from Mark Johnson, formerly of Aikido Kokikai Rochester; you may remember me.

I was shocked and dismayed to hear of Alan's death. Alyce Adams told me about it just before the funeral. Though I've been gone from Rochester for over fifteen years, my time with Alan and the other members our Aikido club has always been one of the happiest of my life. I remember practicing with Alan many times, particularly on our intensive weekends. He always had such huge energy and boundless joy. I am married now, living in Washington DC, and I have a four-year-old daughter. The shock of Alan's passing has motivated me to get a cancer screen that I've been putting off--I saw the doctor yesterday. If you are ever in the DC area, you are welcome to stay with us.

Hugs and sorrow,

Mark

Wendi, Lara and family,
Alan's passing has left a huge whole in my heart. He was my cousin and I grew up with him with the best of childhood memories. Every moment I ever spent with him, were always memorable, positive and good. I am so glad that I had him in my life as I grew up. He was truly a gentlemen and I still can see him smiling and will take that memory with me for always. He will be deeply missed.
Sleep in peace dear cousin,

Wendi,

My thoughts and sympathies are with you, Lara, and your family. I was both shocked and saddened when I heard the news. Alan was a truly wonderful person. He always brought great integrity and talent to his work... you both did, and it was always obvious (and inspiring) to me that you were each other's life-love, best friend and creative muse.

My heart breaks at the thought of a couple who loved, and lived, their lives together so fully, having to endure saying goodbye much too early.

I wish you bluebirds in the spring.

I saw K and H today at a baby shower - a celebration of life - and heard the news of Alan's passing. I am shocked and saddened. I had just emailed Alan on Friday - to get back in touch.

I am deeply saddened ~ but also ~ I have learned a little of Alan's last days and Wendi's courage and grace at this period of time in this family's life.

I know that Lara will have a very rich and full life. My thoughts of peace and love and prayers are with you all.

For myself and my wife Laurie McCall, we are both shocked and saddened at the news of Alan's passing. While I knew him only professionally, I knew him to be a top-rate photographer and always excellent to work with. It's our hope that you find comfort in knowing that he will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.

I knew Alan since he was a student a few years behind me in the photo program at RIT. I thought of him as cheeful and always appreciated his good humor and passion for photography. When he became a colleague on the faculty I had the pleasure to see him share his enthusiasm for the process with our students. He will be missed.
