Charles West Obituary

Charles A. West, Jr.

Lake Worth, FL - passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at age 83. Predeceased by his infant grandson, Angelo August West; father and mother, Charles A., Sr. and Helen West; in-laws, Mae and Augie Fedele. He is survived by his children, Cheryl (Joseph) Lippa, Charles F. West, John R. (Ronette) West; their mother, Angela West; grandchildren, Joe and Andrea Lippa, Rachel, Anthony and Ava West; sister, Rita (Michael) Rose; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Kathy Fedele; companion, Joanne Scutti; nieces, nephews and friends.

Charles was born, May 21, 1936. His family moved to Irondequoit when he was a young boy. In high school, he played for the Irondequoit baseball team. He was such an outstanding second baseman, that he made "all-county", and was scouted by the Philadelphia Phillies. His father, a distinguished local attorney, encouraged him to pursue a college education first. He did and graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1958, and subsequently attended Brooklyn Law School. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1961. He joined his father's law practice for several years and eventually had his own practice for many years retiring in 1991, and later moved to Florida.

He was a fisherman, sports enthusiast and country music fan. He never lost his passion for fishing and taught his children and grandchildren the basics of fishing. They enjoyed many fun times in the Thousand Islands on the "Tia Maria". There are many who will recall the words "get the net" when a fish was hooked, and heaven forbid if you failed to net the fish!

In his later years, he attended many sports events, both pro sports and games of his grandchildren when he could.

Charles will be laid to rest in a private service. Those wishing, contributions in his memory may be directed to Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14420, or to Ronald McDonald House, 333 Westmoreland Drive, Rochester, New York 14620. He led a full life and leaves a legacy of a loving family behind.

Our heart felt condolences to Joanne Scutti and also the entire West family. Charlie was a respected and dear friend for many years. Our families even lived close by in Iroundequoit while growing up. We were neighbors in the 1000 Islands and worked together in Gates as well. Charlie was a kind, considerate and the most loyal friend. We are saddened by his passing.

Dick Gans introduced me to Charlie at Finger Lakes Race Track back in the early 1990's. We became friends and he was a great resource on the law and I consulted with him often. When I started wintering in Florida, we would meet annually at Lake Okeechobee staying at Roland Martin's Fish Camp. Great memories - he will be missed.
