Demosthenes Gitsis Obituary
Penfield, NY - Demosthenes "Danny" Gitsis, 83, owner of the well-known Bay Front Restaurant passed away peacefully on July 22nd at his home surrounded by his loving family. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nitas; sons, Philip and Justin (Linda); daughter, Mary (Paul) DeLella; grandchildren, Daniel, David, Elena, Adriana, Nicholas and Alexis; sisters, Maria Dedes and Vasiliki Harisis; brothers, Evangelos (Despina) and Anastasios (Marianne) Vakfaris; several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
Predeceased by his parents, Triantafilos and Despina; brothers, Sipro Yitsis, Nikolas Gitsis and Achilles Yitsi; sister, Anastasia ; brother-in-law's, Constantinos Dedes, Xenophon Harisis and Manolis Simeonidis; sister-in-law, Christina Gitsis, Anastasia Yitsi and Tana Yitsis; business partner and best friend,Constantinos Harissis.
Born in Drosopigi, Greece on February 28, 1937, he was the son of Triantafilos and Despina and the youngest of nine children. In pursuit of the American dream, Danny immigrated to the US when he was just 17 years old and immediately started working for the restaurant business. He went back to Greece in 1962 and married the love of his life, Nitsa. Together they returned to Rochester, started a family and on March 18th 1966, together with Constantinos and Frederikki Harissis, they opened up the Bay Front restaurant in Irondequoit, NY. For the past 53 years Danny has been the proud owner,where he truly enjoyed serving his community and creating many many friendships with his loyal customers who became his extended family. Danny enjoyed returning to Greece whenever he could, socializing with his friends, and above all he loved spending time with his entire family, especially his grandchildren. They were his everything.
The family would like to extend its expression of gratitude to Dr. Eichel and his staff for their wonderful care.
His family will receive friends on THURSDAY 4-8 PM (Trisagion at 7 PM) at the funeral home (1650 Empire Blvd., Webster). On FRIDAY, please join the family at Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation (962 East Ave., Rochester, NY 14617) at 10 AM for his Funeral Service. Father Angelo Maggos officiating. Interment White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in his memory.

Nitza and family, Sorry for the loss of your Husband, Father, Grand Father and Friend. I will certainly miss his smiling face and personality while hovering and taking care of guests at the Bayfront restaurant. He was a very special man and I'm proud to have known him.

My deepest sympathy to the Getsis family. Danny was a mainstay at the restaurant and a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. We chatted many times over the past years at the restaurant and Dan was always a delightful gentleman. I'l miss seeing him. May he rest in peace.
