We moved into a house in East Amherst and one of her paintings, Tackings, was in the basement. It's a numbered print with a certificate of authenticity. I didn't realize this was someone who has passed. My condolences to the family and all who knew her. I love the print.

I studied under Doris Britt at BK high school. She was a mentor to me and was instrumental in my artistic pursuits. She encouraged me to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and earn a degree in fine art. She was the single person who effected the direction my life would take as an artist. I was fortunate and grateful to have the opportunity to communicate this to her prior to her passing. She will always be a very special influence in my life and a very special person.

Just found this site 2 years late. Not sure what got me thinking of her and sad I never connected with her after graduating. Was finally able to take an Art class my senior year. Always loved Art but needed lots of catching up to go further. She did everything she could to prepare me and get some work done for my interview at RIT. Graduated from BK 1967 and got my Masters in Art Education 1972. Taught in the city and W. Irondequoit and thank Doris for guiding me to that path. Thanks for a great life full of stories like this I am sure.

Miss Britt. Inspiring. Enthusiastic. Creative. Funny. She was my art teacher at BK for four years and it was her class and classroom that kept me sane. Her room was a refuge for so many of us! She was always an inspiration to me. During my school days, she was the only teacher who I never forgot and I carry her teachings with me to this day. I wish I had told her so before she left us for the Big Art Studio in the sky. Much love, Miss Britt.

I am so very saddened to see of Doris' passing, but I KNOW she is now painting the most Heavenly scenes. I met Doris at Corn Hill so many years ago. We kept in touch all this time. I have six of her paintings in my home, and each bring me such joy. I look upon them with greater fondness now. Rest in everlasting peace, my friend.

Miss Britt was an inspiring teacher to me. Many times I would work on my art long after class. I went on to major in Art at Nazareth and was always thrilled to see her at the Clothesline Show

I am deeply saddened by the passing of this sweetheart of a woman. I was one of her BK majorettes having graduated in 1972 but having traveled to Italy and Ireland while under her guidance. She will be greatly missed.

I say “family” because that’s what Dordle is and always will be to us. We will miss her dearly and I am forever grateful for then positive impact she had on my sisters and I. From holiday celebrations, to birthdays,
to random trips to Bill Gray’s when the outlet bridge is open, she was always there and happy as could be. We will miss you Doris. May you rest in eternal piece and your legacy will never be forgotten.

Thank you to "Miss Britt's" family for sharing her with all her students.
I was a student of Miss Britt at Bishop Kearney High School, member of the 1973 graduating class.
I am grateful for the guidance and input and encouraging instruction.
God bless Miss Britt. My condolences.

It was a pleasure to know Doris, she was a kind, fun and kooky person, in the best possible ways. Her early days and more recent years in the Western New York British sportscar community were spent with enthusiasm and spirit; she was always a welcome addition to any gathering. It was wonderful to see her blasting around in her beloved Alfie, her MG-TD. Her knowledge and history of the 1950s and 1960s “heyday” years of British sportscars were a gift to those of us that treasure the foundations that were laid to a hobby that is still widely enjoyed today. Thank you, Doris - wishing you smooth roads ahead. Safety Fast, friend, you will be missed.

Doris was an amazing person, a good friend, and a great longtime neighbor of ours on Oklahoma Beach. She was one of the last of the "old guard" on this private drive. We have her artwork in our house, shared our love of cats and British cars, and had her over for many Buffalo Bills games. She will be greatly missed. We will be making a donation to Lollyop Farm in her name. Rest in peace, Doris.

Ms Britt was an amazing teacher, inspiring me to be an art teacher too. I wasn't the best artist in the school (by far!) but she made me feel that like I was. Her energy and joy of creativity, her need to make students feel safe and empowered in her classroom lives on in all of us who knew her. I always loved finding her at local shows to catch up and to recharge my spirits.
My mom taught with her at Kearney and remained friends, she had many of Ms. Britt’s pieces in my parent’s home. We will miss you!

Doris had a significant impact on my adult life. We were buddies as part of the "Bridge It' campaign in the 80's. I learned public speaking skills and how to effectively work for a cause all due to her examples. It was a great time in our lives and I will never forget her. Rest in peace my friend.

TO DORIS'S FAMILY. I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE A MEMORY OR TWO. JUST TODAY MY DAUGHTER AND HUSBAND [WE LIVE TOGETHER] WAS CLEANING THE GARAGE AND FOUND A BOX OF PHOTOS. SEVERAL OF THEM WAS OF DORIS AND I FROM OUR DRUM CORP DAYS. GAVE ME SO MANY THOUGHTS OF HER AND WAS STUNNED WHEN I SAW THIS NOTICE. I GUESS I JUST DON'T THINK ABOUT A THE YEARS THAT HAVE PASSED. I EXPRESS MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO HER FAMILY AND FRIEND AS I KNOW SHE WILL BE MISSED. GOD BLESS YOU. ELEANOR FOSTER CRIST

So sad, Miss Britt was my high school art teacher at Bishop Kearney, and probably my favorite teacher. I remember the time she let me make pizza for the class in the kiln! Thanks you for touching my life.
