Emery Joseph Letham

Emery Joseph Letham passed away peacefully on April 4, 2021 surrounded by his family at his home in Bristow, Virginia. Predeceased by daughters Ann and Martha and son-in-law Warren Miller. He will be greatly missed by his cherished wife of 65 years Norma, daughters Susan and Mary, son-in-law Michael, grandchildren Jason (Andrea), Megan (Stephen), Emily (Joe), Benjamin (Erin), Alexander, Michael, Savannah and Mackenzie (Randy) and great-grandchildren Jonathan, Paisley, Adelaide and Declan.

Emery was born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania in 1934 to Robert Letham and Martha Madigan Letham, attended St. Colman's Catholic School, Turtle Creek High, Indiana University of Pennsylvania (Class of 1956), University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville and the University of Rochester (U of R) New York. Emery received his Master of Education from UVA in 1968 and completed all the course work for his Ph.D. at the U of R in 1977.

Emery's career as a passionate educator spanned 33 years, beginning at Mayville Central School in Mayville, N.Y. (1956-1962) and finished at Wheatland-Chili High School (1962- 1989) where he was a wrestling coach, teacher, Junior High Principal and Senior High Principal. Two of his favorite sayings were "Think, it may be a new experience" and "When you are done screwing around, read the directions".

Emery and Norma spent almost 20 years of their retirement in Punta Gorda, Florida enjoying golfing every day and the "Country Club" life. Emery served as the Vice President, Director of the Southwest Florida Men's Golf Association, Inc. Emery's lifelong love of learning continued into his retirement and he devoted the last 15 years to researching family genealogy.

Cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at a future date.
