Emily Bobry Obituary

Emily Joy Bobry

Brighton - On April 25, 2021, Emily Joy Bobry, passed away at the age of 38 after an acute illness. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing and a Master's Degree in Education from SUNY Oswego. Her creative writing was expressive and a wonderful outlet for Emily, and many of her poems were published in poetry journals. Emily enjoyed summers at Camp Sisol and Camp Seneca Lake where she found a strong sense of love, community, and inclusivity. Emily worked hard to achieve sobriety after years of suffering from addiction. She was very proud of becoming clean and worked to support other women around the country to achieve and maintain their own sobriety. She became a Sobriety Sister, which gave her life special meaning in being able to help others. Weeks before her illness, she posted a message on facebook, celebrating six years and four months clean, with a message of inspiration, "If anyone out there is struggling and trying to stop drinking or using, but isn't sure they can do it… I am living proof that you can. You are not worthless or hopeless and you certainly aren't unworthy. You DESERVE recovery!" She shared her story with the world, hoping to dismantle the shame and secrecy about the disease of addiction.

Special thanks to Marcus Callerame, her significant other, and his family, for loving and being with Emily the past five years.

Emily is survived by her parents Terri and Harold Bobry, sister Melanie Bobry and Dan Polant, niece Evelyn and nephew Isaac Bobry-Polant and her Grandparents Betsy and Stuart Bobry. She was loved and will be missed by her family and everyone whose lives she may have touched.

A private family funeral will be held. Shiva will be observed Tuesday (4/27), 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM and Wednesday (4/28), 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM at 16 Bretton Woods Drive, Rochester, NY 14618. Shiva will be held outside, with masks required.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Emily's memory can be made to Camp Seneca Lake at the Rochester JCC, a place where she was truly happy. https://jccrochester.org/giving/

Dear Terry and Harold, While I didn't have the opportunity to know Emily, based on my befriending you all at HarleyFest and communicating via Facebook, I'm quite sure she was an outstanding and beautiful person both inside and out! My thoughts and prayers have been with Emily, you all, and the rest of your family. I truly hope her wonderful memories bring you solace and happiness as you forge ahead on your respective life journeys. I believe Emily is with you in spirit and soul. May she rest in peace into eternity.

Taking care of Emily was an honor at highland hospital. I checked on her almost every night I worked (even when she wasn’t my patient). I enjoyed just spending time with her and talking to her. I am very sad that she has passed but I take comfort in the fact that she is no longer in pain. I enjoyed reading her story and this is very well written. Unfortunately I wasn’t able get to know Emily before she was in critical condition, although she seemed (and was) a very strong woman. I am very sorry for your loss

My condolences and deepest sympathies to the Bobry family. Emily was a wonderful cousin and had a curiosity and spunk I admired. She'll always be that wonderful cousin in my heart and I'll carry it forever. She had a sense of humor and somehow "got" me.

It was truly an honor to get to know Emily as I met her through affiliate marketing. Once we may a strong connection, every time I needed help, she was always there. Even when I was feeling down, she would send me the most inspiring messages to keep my head up. I am going to miss her words of encouragement. She was a wonderful woman to work with. May her soul rest in peace and my prayers and condolences are with her family during this difficult time.
