Erik Latimer Obituary

Latimer, Erik Martin
Downers Grove, Illinois: Aged 34, passed away with dignity June 4, 2008, in Downers Grove, Illinois. Erik was born July 7, 1973 in Madison, Wisconsin. He was a graduate of Brighton High School in Rochester, NY; Tulane University, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity; and Loyola University School of Law, in New Orleans, LA, where he earned his law degree and co-founded the Maritime Law Journal, The American Mariner. After seven years in private practice in New Orleans and Miami, he joined British Petroleum Legal in Chicago, Illinois in August 2005. He was a member of the Louisiana and Florida Bar Associations and the Maritime Law Association of the United States. He is survived by his beloved wife Megen Anderson, their baby Elizabeth Jane "Libby" Latimer, his father Lee Latimer of Oakland, California; his grandmother Elizabeth Martin of Brooklyn, Michigan, Godchildren Austa and James Jensen of Spring Lake, Michigan and Gabrielle Cousin of Lacombe, Louisiana. Erik's mother Sally A. Martin and his grandparents August Martin, Bob Latimer, and Jane Latimer preceded him in death. Erik was an avid rugby player, skier, diver, sailor, hiker, fisherman, and golfer. He enjoyed reading, writing, baking, traveling, spending time with friends and all things nautical. His greatest joys were his extended family and the joys of being a husband and father. He will be sadly missed by all who were touched by his love, grace, and joy of life.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 28, 11:00 am at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Chapel of the Palms, 621 W. Long Lake Rd., Troy, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the International Dyslexia Association or the American Brain Tumor Association.

We shudder to imagine the heart ache you are enduring, and wish we could find the right words to comfort you in this very, very sad time. We are fortunate to have the memory of last summer in Chicago, which now is bitter-sweet, yet we are thankful to have it. Know that we are thinking of you often, with hopes that life may bring comfort to Erik's friends and family, who are enduring this very mournful point in time.

Megen and Libby
We wish you the strength and emotion to continue life happily together and to forever help Libby through a life of knowing her father. I was lucky to have met the two of you in New Orleans and to have been inspired to laugh and have fun by Erik. He was an extremely intelligent and wonderful man. Hold tight to his memory and believe he is watching over you and Libby as you continue through life with him in your hearts and souls.
With Warmth and Love
