Guy McGowan Obituary
Penfield: On July 4, 2011 at age 90. Guy is predeceased by his wife, Jayne Becker McGowan; son, James Jefferson "Jeff" McGowan and sister, Leanna Mayo of Fairport. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra McGowan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Guy McGowan, son of James J. McGowan and Mina (Ludwig) McGowan was born and raised in Penfield, NY, attending its schools and growing up with the town. Graduating from Norwich University in Vermont, the spring after Pearl Harbor, Guy entered the Army and served in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany before shipping out to the Philippines for the invasion of Japan. The surrender brought him home to Penfield, where in 1946 he joined the Penfield Volunteer Fire Co. serving it proudly for the rest of his life. He married his old school friend, Jayne, who had written to him throughout the war, and committed himself to raising his family, running his insurance business and serving his community through various organizations throughout his long life. He will be missed.
Friends may call Thursday 2-4, 7-9 PM at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Rd., where a Funeral Service will be held Friday 10 AM. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Penfield Volunteer Fire Co. c/o Canandaigua National Bank, 1816 Penfield Rd., Penfield, NY 14526.

Sandra/out in Iowa and missed the calling and memorial. Not only is the loss extremely personal,from the community point of view no more stories from Mr. Penfield!! indelible loss. Founder Penfield Rotary, something I will encourage the club to specially recognise.///nels carman jr.

Not sure if you ever knew this, but Emily Jayne Wood Robbins was named after your Mom. Jack and Leora Wood owned "the other" insurance agency in Penfield. Emily is their grand daughter. Guy and Jayne were wonderful friends of the Woods and we will forever remember them. Guy was a legend... my thoughts and prayers are with you. Kathy Ratcliffe (Emily Wood Robbins Mom)

Dear Sandra,
