Harvey Cummings Obituary
Albion, NY: 87, retired local business entrepreneur, died Saturday August 29, 2009 at home, under the care of his family and Hospice. Born August 5, 1922 in Buffalo, NY to Eugene and Anna (Feiner) Cummings, Harvey served on the U.S.S. Wayne, an attack transport, from 1942 through 1945, participating in seven major Pacific landings. He was founder and CEO of Cummings and Bricker, Inc., a wholesale farm equipment distributor, which continues to operate from Batavia, N.Y.and Carlisle, Pa. as a family business serving twenty states.
Harvey is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 33 years, Janice Porter Warne Cummings. He was the cherished father of Judith (William) Jack of Fairport, NY; James (Sherry) Cummings of Carlisle, PA; Susan Robinson of Batavia, NY; Patricia (Scott) Cummings-Witter of Lockport, NY; Eugene (Lynn) Cummings of Bergen, NY; and Nancy Cummings of Batavia, NY. Also surviving is his adored "Sis," Berniece (William P. - deceased) Barrett of Kenmore, N.Y and her five children. Predeceased by Nancy Smith Cummings, the mother of his children. Harvey had six stepchildren, 29 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
The family will be present at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 W. Ave. Albion, NY Monday, August 31 from 6 to 8pm, and Tuesday, September 1 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm.
There will be a Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 10am at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph's Church, Albion. Burial will follow at Mt. Albion Cemetery with full military honors. Our thoughts & prayer's go out to Harvey Cummings family in their time of grief. I had the great honor to know Harvey over the past few years and I always admired him for what a wonderful, loving husband and father he was. I'm sure the family has many fond memorie's to see them through their lose. God's blessing's to you all.
