John Ferguson Obituary

Ferguson, John M.

Pittsford: October 4, 2016. John M. Ferguson was born the only child to Melvin and Margaret Ferguson on May 24th, 1937 in Worcester, NY. In 1955, after a childhood full of fishing, sports, and growing up with brother-like cousins, John graduated as valedictorian of Worcester High School and went on to attend Union College where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta and earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. At the University of Rochester, John earned his master's in business administration in 1968. He put his education to use in his career as an engineer for the Kodak Corporation.

John loved all sports, particularly baseball and particularly the Dodgers—following them from Brooklyn to LA with fervent fandom. John was also a season ticket holder for the Rochester Red Wings and attended every game possible at Silver Stadium and Frontier alike. In addition to baseball, John enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, reading about history, the company of his family, laughing at a good joke, a well-prepared meal, and a fine drink. And at the end of each day, John Ferguson was a man who did the right thing—no matter what the situation. Undoubtedly, John is resting in peace knowing the Dodgers are in the playoffs.

John is survived by his four children and their spouses: Anne Wilder (Sean Hanlon), Andrew (Ingrid) Ferguson, Russell Ferguson (Sarah Nazarian), Molly (Chris) Ludwig, and his grandchildren: Max, Sam, and Hope Wilder, Maia and Sophie Ferguson, Brodie and Hank Ferguson, Jordan and Quinn O'Connor, and Madeline and Camille Ludwig—all of whom will miss him very much.

Special thanks to Frank and Roberto at Frontier Field for years of baseball and friendship.

Calling hours will be Sunday 2-4PM at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Rd. (Egypt Location) where a private service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Penfield Little League or Rochester Community Baseball.

A very generous man that I did not know very well, but my daughter received several academic awards that were sponsored by Mr. Ferguson. Even though he moved to the Rochester area, he still contributed to his childhood town of Worcester. Thank you and rest in peace.

John and I worked together as Industrial Engineers at Kodak Park. It was our first "real" job and it was a most exciting time of life. /We hit it off from the beginning and rented a house along with others. / In a moment that I remember vividly, John, normally an excellent listener, was looking over my shoulder as I was talking to him at the office, and luttered those words I never forgot: "Wow, lookee there!" I turned and saw a young woman new to our division. I was struck by the thunderbolt! Her name was Kay Anderson. Three years later, John was the best man at our marriage./
We played basketball for the department. John was our "big man" who had such a graceful and accurate jump shot. /I always enjoyed being with him.I loved his sense of humor and his laugh. /When our grandson, Peter, expressed an interest in going to RIT, about a year and a half ago, Kay and I joined him on the trip. This gave us a chance to spent a few wonderful hours with John discussing old times, and were transported back to those years at Kodak. / We were so excited when Peter announced that he would go to RIT and Kay and I had plans for many more meetings with John,/ He was such an important person in my life and I cherish my memories. A wonderful man and the best friend one could hope for.

Molly & Family, I am so sorry to hear about your dad. It is obvious that he was a good man, a loving father & grandfather, & quite the character & devoted fan of "the game" of baseball. Your Westgate family is thinking of you during this sad time & will be here for you when you return. Love & Care. Anne Gravely
