John McCarthy Obituary
Brockport - John "Mack" McCarthy, 65, of Brockport, NY, died after a brief illness on May 5th, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born June 12th, 1955 in Syracuse, NY, the son of John J. McCarthy, Sr. and Margaret Lawyer McCarthy.
John attended Paul V. Moore High School in Central Square, NY, and graduated from SUNY College of Brockport with a degree in English. His life's work was as a Residence Counselor at Lifetime Assistance, Inc., where he was honored to serve individuals with developmental disabilities for 34 years. John supported the individuals at LAI with dignity and respect, and maintained his friendships with them after retirement. He was involved in all facets of theater: acting, directing, and producing plays for local productions with The Brockport Community Players, and The BUM Players of the Brockport United Methodist Church, where he cherished community and fellowship. John also attended Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, where he volunteered for the annual crop walk for hunger. Along with acting, he loved being behind the scenes and attending musicals and plays. John was known as a true gentleman in his kindness and selflessness towards all who knew him. He sought to protect those he loved until the very end. Once John was in your life, you could count on him to always be in your corner.
John was predeceased by his father, John "Jack" McCarthy, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Margaret "Peg" McCarthy of Orwell, NY, brothers, James (Deirdre) McCarthy of Central Square, NY, Jerry (Sandra) McCarthy of Constantia, NY, sister, Melanie (Daniel) Dunne of Greece, NY; nephews, Jeremy, Cian, Jared and Shane McCarthy, niece, Mary Rogers; great niece and nephew, Mia and Waylon McCarthy, as well as his dear friend and "brother", Gary "Turk" Thomas.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 9, 2021 from 1 - 4 PM at Fowler Funeral Home, Inc., 340 West Ave., Brockport, NY 14420 where masks are required and social distancing protocols will be followed.
Services will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 11 AM at Fowler Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will be held privately.

John was like a brother to me - and the most humble, compassionate and selfless man - I will cherish the memories of parties at his “pad” - all the plays were in together - all the movies we enjoyed together - he set a good example for us all - a life too short but well lived.
