Judith Gates Obituary
Cameron Jost
Webster: Formerly of Manchester, Vermont: Passed on April 2, 2017, age 82. A graduate of Barnard College (1956) with a degree in Mathematics. She joined IBM in 1956 at the dawn of the computer era and worked with them in New York, Boston, and San Francisco before moving to Manchester, Vermont where she married her first husband, had her two children, Martha and David, held several jobs and was on the Board of Education. In 1982 she married Richard Gates and moved to Penfield and then Webster, NY. Predeceased by her husband, Richard Gates. She is survived by her children David (Catie) Cone and Martha Stein; sister Arden (Tom) Hynd; step-children Lori (Robert) Bowerman, Richard (Lynn) Gates, Nancy (Jim) Gould, Raymond (Karen) Gates, Carolyn Cone, and Peter (Milli) Cone; grandchildren Daniel & Stephen Cone and Jacob & Casey Stein; step-grandchildren Carolyn Osterhout (Michael) & Christine Bowerman, Taylor & Paige Gould, and Raymond & Johnathan Gates; step-great grandchild Emma Osterhout.
Judy loved her immediate and extended family, and friends both old and new. She was an excellent athlete who pursued tennis and skiing most of her adult life. She was an avid reader, enjoyed concerts and shows and enjoyed classical music and jazz. She played the flute and piano and most recently was learning to play the clarinet.
Friends may call 11am-1pm Saturday, May 20th at Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster. A reception will follow at Lillian's Restaurant, 2200 Penfield Rd., Unit 11, Penfield, NY. Private interment for the family and friends will be at 10am, Saturday, May 20th at White Haven Memorial Park, Pittsford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Hospice Bereavement Service, 2180 Empire Blvd., Webster, NY 14580 or Lifetime Care Hospice, 3111 South Winton Rd., Rochester, NY 14623.

My memories of Judy extend back more than sixty years, to the time when we were classmates at Barnard. Since then we have only had occasional phone conversations but she was a valued friend and a happy companion and I am saddened by this loss. I send warmest condolences to her family.
