Louise Long Obituary

Long, Louise Ann "Louie" (Ash)

Webster: Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 8, 2011 after a valiant fight against MDS and AML over the past year. Born 11/11/43 in Rochester, NY. Predeceased by her husband Richard "Tinker" and her parents Walter and Sarah Ash.

Survived by her daughter Kristin (John) Moore and son Kevin (Michele) Long, and grandchildren Ryan and Abby Long; her siblings Bonnie (David) Breedlove, Kathleen (Richard) Bertan, Thomas (Sharon) Ash, and Russell (Sharon) Ash; nieces and nephews; and dear friends.

Louie was a member of the first graduating class at Gates-Chili High School. She also graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in fashion merchandising. Louie was a model at the former Sibley's, McCurdy's, and B. Forman stores. In her later years, she worked for the original "Rochester Women" Magazine, the Health Association and for an insurance agency. Louie was a talented seamstress and enjoyed her many sewing and machine embroidery projects for family and friends.

This past August, Louie was delighted to attend her 50th reunion from Gates-Chili High School and even refashioned her Harvest Queen dress into a stunning jacket that she wore. It was also a big thrill for her to celebrate her 68th birthday (11/11/11) at Hillside Inn, a place that held many happy memories for her.

With great appreciation, we thank her hematologist Dr. John Phelan II for his steadfast care and the many nurses at Lipson Cancer Center - Linden Oaks Cancer Treatment Center - that befriended her during her treatments and visits. We thank the doctors and caregivers at Rochester General Hospital during her various stays. We also thank the wonderfully caring staff at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center.

Friends may call 2-5 Sat. (today) at Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster, NY 14580. Memorial Service to be arranged at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center c/o Lifetime Care, 3111 So. Winton Rd., Rochester, NY 14623, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society www.lls.org.

Please accept my sympathy in the passing of your loved one, Louise. As my husband, Tom and I moved to Buffalo after college, I have been out of touch with high school friends. Louise was a member of the G-C cheerleading squad with myself and friends. That is how I remember her. I hope that her children and grandchildren have many fond memories to carry them through these difficult days.
Sincerely, Nancy Lindsley Morris

Dear Kevin and Family,
I am so sad to know of the passing your Mom / your loved one/ my friend. I want you to know Kevin, that you, and your Mom have always been very special to me. I send my love, and prayers to all the family. I have fond memories of you, Kevin through, your friendship with my brother Anthony, years ago as kids. You showed many kindnesses to me. I have never forgotten you, I was also indeed most blessed to work with your Mom at The Heath Assn. While I have not seen you or your Mom for years, I never forgot all your many kindnesses and smiles you both brought to my life, Your Mom touched me every time I saw her at The Heath Assn. sure to share a kind word, or make people laugh. Her ability to light up a room with her energy, and desire to help any way she could and any one she could, will forever be remembered, She always was eager to share great stories about her family with me, on a regular basis. She had such joy on her face and such excitement, as she spoke how special you all were.. I loved hearing the stories...It brought happiness to both of us..May all your fond loving memories, bring you comfort. I am sure she is smiling down upon you with your Dad. May you have peace knowing you will meet again. God Bless. You all remain in my daily prayers.
