Nancy Kays Obituary
Penn Yan: Nancy B. Kays, age 74, of E. Lake Rd., Penn Yan died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Rochester General Hospital.
Friends and family may call from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, March 13, 2009 at St. Michael's Church, Liberty St., Penn Yan. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Penn Yan. Memorials may be made in her name to the Keuka Comfort Care Home, PO Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Nancy was born on June 26, 1934 in Scranton, PA, the daughter of John J. and Beatrice M. McGinnis Curran. Nancy graduated from Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA as an RN in 1955, was employed at Clifton Springs Hospital, and retired in 1996 from Soldier's and Sailor's Hospital in Penn Yan. Nancy was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. She was instrumental in the creation of Keuka Comfort Care Home in Penn Yan. She was a former board of director of FLACRA, a current board of director of the Keuka Comfort Care Home, an active member of the Food for the Needy program, and a member of the Lakeside Country Club.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bill; children, William J. (Maureen) Kays Jr., Kieran Kays, Kevin (Tracy) Kays, grandchildren, Conor, Eamon, Liam, Katharine Kays and Harrison Parks; sister, Kathleen (Rick) Leibenguth; nephew, Eric Leibenguth; and numerous cousins. Bob and I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs Kays thru her daughter(and our good friend) Kieran. She was a lovely person and full of energy and had a great sense of humor. We had a great time camping in her back yard with other good friends and enjoying a run to Bully Hill--God bless to the family.
