Pauline Graves Obituary
Rochester: Mrs. Pauline H. Graves, 96, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. Pauline was born in South Boston, VA, July 6, 1920 a daughter of the late Silas Simpson Hamlett & Mattie McKenzie Jones Hamlett. She attended Fayetteville State University, in Fayetteville, NC attaining a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She attended North Carolina Central University receiving a Masters of Arts in Education. Retiring in 1985 from the Rochester City School System, NY ending a 34 years of educating students in grades 1-3 in NC, VA, and NY.
Married to the late Rev. Raymond L. Graves for 57 years. She served the Lord faithfully at New Bethel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Rochester New York for 41 years as the First Lady, President of the Women's Missionary Society and the Adult Choir. She moved to Hinesville, Georgia in 2011 to be near her children.
In Pauline's early years she was married to Alexander Moore Trotter of Roxboro, NC. He predeceased her in death; leaving 2 sons. She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Alexander (Pearl) Trotter, Rochester, NY, Paul L.Trotter, District Heights, MD, daughter Valeria Graves (William, Lieutenant Colonel Retired USA) Sutton, Hinesville, GA, A Special daughter Rev. Janice W. King, Atlanta, GA, Grandchildren Chanell Trotter (Ckori) Jones, Bowie, MD, Laurie Trotter, Capital Heights, MD, Captain (P) Sheron Sutton (Captain Michael) Collins, Fayetteville NC, Petty Officer 3rd Class Timothy Sutton, Okinawa, Japan and Bridgette Cohens, Coral Gables, FL: Seven Great grandchildren two sisters-in- law Elizabeth Hamlett, Colonial Heights, VA and Mary Graves, Oxford, NC; host of nieces and nephews, church family and friends.
Friends may call Saturday July 8, 2017, 10-11AM at New Bethel CME Church, 270 Scio St. Funeral Service to follow. Internment White Haven Memorial Park.

Saddened to learn of the loss of First Lady Pauline Graves. My earliest musical memories are of my mother, Mildred, and Mrs. Graves singing in the choir. Rest in peace, your contributions to the youth were immeasurable.
