He was also editor of his college fraternity magazine, 'The Shield of Theta Delta Chi', and co-wrote a column for Gannett Papers called 'Writing is Fun'. After graduating in 1955, he joined his father at Rueby Process, a screen printing business, remaining there as CEO until his retirement in 2001. For 12 years, Ray wrote a full page monthly column for 'Screen Printing Magazine' entitled 'Office Memo'.

After retiring, Ray began a new career as author and book publisher and resumed his interest in drawing and painting. He published 'The Magic of Your Name', a business biography, in 2004 and in 2007, a novel entitled 'Flora's Money'.
