To Bernadine's family, who were so very dear to her, I send my deepest most heartfelt condolences. She and I started our "dream jobs" in the late 1980's. Mine was in entomological research with Agriculture Canada in Vancouver, British Columbia. I loved her spark, her sense of humor, her humanity and her drive for excellence in research, teaching and extension. I always looked forward to seeing her.

Our hearts are broken learning of Bernadine`s passing. She was a wonderful wife and mother, accomplish scientist, pillar of the community and a dear friend to us for over 25 years. A world leader in her field she was always professional and respectful and her interactions with others and generous with sharing her knowledge. Bernadine was also fun loving, enjoyed good humor and was a fabulous hostess. She was an excellent cook and desserts were her specialty. her pies and pastries were presented perfectly and always delicious. She and her husband Neil shared their warm relationship with a wide circle of friends creating a welcoming home for all who visited.
Bernadine was an attentive mother and made sure her daughters had a childhood rich in many experiences and educational opportunities. Part of that was being there for them at school including on the School Board of the Luckiamute Valley Charter School. She was a capable and thoughtful advocate on the Board and her and her husband volunteered their time for many school related projects.
It was an honor and privilege to have known Bernadine in our lives have been enriched by her example. She was truly an inspiration.

I am so sorry to learn of Bernadine's passing. I enjoyed working with her on several projects at OSU. She was a warm, caring person and a great scientist.

I didn't know Bernadine, but I took her online 6 week course on growing blueberries. Living in an area that doesn't grow blueberries, the knowledge I gained from this course was life changing for us and for our farm. I am certain I speak for many across the globe in saying that. The time Bernadine spent in research and the passion she had for it showed in her dedication and her work. I don't know who will ever follow in the shoes of this industry giant. She will be greatly missed but hopefully she left this world knowing she left a huge impact on the lives she left behind.

My condolences to Bernadine's family. Bernadine was so well respected by her friends in the agricultural community and will be sorely missed. She was always willing to share her knowledge and expertise and was fun to be around. She had a soft spot for us here in Ontario after spending time doing graduate studies at the University of Guelph and it wasnt too hard to lure her back to share her knowledge with our growers. We had some great conversations about farming and family. We will all cherish the time we had together and the special memories.
