Daniel Thomas Rogers
May 20, 1943 - November 6, 2023
Daniel Thomas Rogers was born on May 20, 1943, to Thomas and Jane (Markle) Rogers in Northampton, MA. He died at the Samaritan Hospice House in Albany, OR on November 6, 2023 (due to complications of Parkinson's disease).
He grew up in Libby, MT, moved to Spokane, WA at fourteen, and graduated from Central Valley High School, Veradale, WA. He obtained a B.S. in Chemistry from WSU, Pullman, WA. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Montana State University (Bozeman) where he met his wife, Dinaz. Dan worked at the U. S. Bureau of Mines in Boulder City, NV. and later transferred to the Albany, OR. facility. Upon the Albany Bureau of Mines closure, he taught English in Pusan, Korea for fourteen years, travelled to the DMZ, and went to the 2008 Olympics Games in China. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Albany, OR.
Dan was an avid genealogist and had an extensive website: Daniel T. Rogers (b. 1943) - all my relatives. The first sentence of his website: Finally more than 40 years of research connects my family to Adam and Eve. For research about his mother's German side of her family, he brushed up on his German, visited relatives in Germany, and had a collection of books on the same. If given enough information, he would make pedigree charts for friends. He was a good bridge player and most of all - a passionate and a devoted chess player, doing his best to promote chess here in the Northwest.
Dan is survived by his wife, Dinaz, and their daughters Diane Armaity Rogers Bischoff and Zenobia Jane Rogers, and granddaughters Roxanne Artemis and Sameen Danica Faith Bischoff. Also, his sister Lois Gorman and family, brother William and family, sister Mary Lentz and family, and brother Thomas and family.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 1115 28th Ave SW, Albany, Oregon, on December 2, 2023 at 11 AM. People attending the service are asked to wear green or a spot of green, if possible. It was Dan's favorite color.

Dan kept the Corvallis Chess Club going When it was the Albany Chess Club, and then again more recently. He encouraged and taught young players, and managed tournaments. All chess players owe him a big thank you for keeping local chess going.
