Richard Riess Obituary

Richard Phillip (Rich) Riess

SHERWOOD - Richard Phillip (Rich) Riess, 66, of Sherwood, Oregon passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on February 14, 2024. Richard was born in Corvallis, Oregon to Phillip and Gertrude Riess.

He graduated from Corvallis High School. He first attended Oregon State, then graduated from Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon. Richard coached various youth teams over the years, including his own children.

Richard taught PE & Health at Hazelbrook Middle School in Tualatin, and worked in the Tigard Tualatin School District for 37 years.

Richard married Susie Stebbins on June 29, 1991. He is survived by his wife, sons Brooks, Brodie, and Brae, grandchildren Grayson and Emelia, sisters Carolyn Myers, and Anita Popp, brothers in law Ron Popp and Tim Stebbins, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Richard was an Oregon Masters Swimmer for many years, and swam in the Roy Webster Cross Channel Swim several times.

Richard was a life-long sports fan following the Oregon State Beavers, Dallas Cowboys, Portland Trail Blazers, and Seattle Mariners. If he wasn't attending a game, he was watching it on TV.

His greatest joy was coaching, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date.
