January 24, 1952 - July 18, 2021

Ruth "Darlene" Topping of Corvallis, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 18, at Good Samaritan Hospital, with her husband and two children present.

Darlene was born January 24, 1952 in Nashville, Tennessee, daughter of William Clifton Waters, and Grace Louise (Manley) Waters. Darlene attended High School in Nashville, and did her LPN Program at Vanderbilt University. She met her husband to be, Ray Topping, in high school and married while he was in college at Auburn University. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. They have two children: daughter, Kristi (Topping) Snapp, of Keizer, and her husband, Bryon Snapp; and Craig Topping, of Caldwell, Idaho, and his wife, Taryn (Sanderson) Topping. She has four grandchildren: Sydney and Palmer Snapp, and Wyatt and Colton Topping. And she sponsored International Exchange Students that became part of her forever family.

Darlene was a kind-hearted, generous person with many interests. She loved arts and crafts and scrapbooking and was an active reader. She enjoyed tennis and was a member of Timberhill Tennis Club. She worked for Hospice for 10 years and was an active supporter of local charities. Darlene loved traveling in the US and Internationally. Most of all she loved being with her family.

The family is arranging a private Celebration of Life in Sunriver, one of her favorite places. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Old Mill Center for Children and Families at oldmillcenter.org or Savin Juice Dog Rescue at adoptoregon.org (where we adopted our dogs), or a charity of your choice.

Seeing the notice of Ruth Darlene's passing in today's paper was an unpleasant surprise. I have known Darlene and especially Ray for the past 20 years. We live in the Vineyard Mountain community. Ray and I have volunteered on the Park and Recreation District Board. I remember two things about Darlene. First she loved dogs and most recently took in two rescue dogs, a mother and daughter. It is said that you can judge people by how they treat animals. Second, Darlene was keenly interested in a Kiosk built at the Snow Park off Concord. This was an Eagle Scout project. Darelene spent several hours "supervising" the construction by Andrew Parish. Condolences to Ray and his children, and several grandchildren.
