Audrey Faye Stuart Brooks

1935 - 2024

Audrey Faye Stuart Brooks, 89, descendant of early settlers in the Old Alton Community of Denton County, passed away July 8, 2024. She was born to Grover Cleavland and Mildred Stuart on June 13, 1935. She married Jim V. Brooks on June 2, 1956, in Denton. She was a loving mother and nana.

Mrs. Brooks was educated in Denton public schools. She received a bachelor's and master's degrees from what now the University of North Texas, where she also pursued post master's studies.

After briefly exploring a career in accounting, she realized that few doors were open to female accountants in the 1950's. She then turned to the field of education.

Mrs. Brooks taught in the Dallas Independent School District for 34 years, first at Thomas Jefferson High School and at W. T. White High School, where she was a member of the opening faculty in 1964. She enjoyed a new challenge during her last six years at W. T. White when she sponsored the school newspaper and experienced the excitement of journalism.

She was a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

She is survived by her husband Jim V, Brooks, her son Eric S. Brooks and wife Theresa Brooks, and her grandson Vaughn Brooks. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother J. B. Stuart.

Visitation will held July 16, 2024, at 9:00am followed by funeral service at 10:00am at Mulkey Bowles Montgomery Funeral Home. The burial will be private at Roselawn Memorial Park.
