Bill Mundy Obituary
Bill was a member of the graduating Class of 1955 from Sanger High School. He went on to attend Cisco Junior College on a basketball scholarship and later transferred to Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth where he met the love of his life. On March 5, 1959, Bill married Wanda Joyce West in Fort Worth, Texas. For a short time, they made their home in Ft. Worth before settling in Denton, Texas, where they raised their two children.
Bill worked for the United States Postal Service in Denton for over 30 years. He was a
member of the Denton Elks Lodge. A devout man of faith, Bill was a loyal servant to God, and was ordained as a Deacon at Highland Baptist Church. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially in the company of his family and his grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as "Poppy." Bill was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and spent many days on the golf course or in his garage shop. Bill also loved two kinds of music: Country and Western - and he cherished his Martin guitar. Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. He will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brother R. N. "Blue" Mundy, sister, Joyce Mundy, and daughter Debra Joyce Nickens. Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Wanda of Denton, and son, Von Ross Mundy and wife Juanita Green Mundy of Flower Mound. Five grandchildren Kelsey Barber and husband Lukas, Hanna Mundy, Russell Nickens, Travis Nickens, and Alexandra Gorman; three great-grandchildren, Lyla Kay Barber, Gavin Ross Barber, Grayson Rhyann Montgomery, and one on the way, also survive him.
A visitation for Bill is at 10:00 am on May 7, 2024, with a memorial service immediately following at 11:00 am at the Highland Baptist Church, 600 Thomas Street, Denton, Texas. Pastor Brandon McCarroll will officiate the services.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sanger Cemetery Association or a charity of your choice.

Bill and I were old friends. He was always kind and friendly to me. I first met him while coaching in Slidell during the Sixties. His athletic and music abilities stand out to me the most. I was a member of his basketball team that he organized years ago. I will miss him.

Billy Bert was in high school with my brother, so I remember watching him play basketball. He was a big asset with his height. Also, I remember watching him referring many basketball games. He was always so friendly and he will be greatly missed. Prayers for comfort to his family and friends.

We came to love and respect Bill and Wanda when Dale was pastor of Highland in the 90’s. Bill was a true deacon, always willing to serve in kind, positive ways. And a wonderful support to his pastor. We pray for his family as we know he will be greatly missed.

Sending love and prayers to Bills family. I’ve know Bill the biggest part of my life. The best was when he called our basketball games and he would tell me and Kathy to behave before the game. You will be missed sweet friend. We lost a great man.
