Glenn Lloyd Carr

Glenn Lloyd Carr, 80, was born in Kingsville, Texas on September 28, 1941, and joined his family in Heaven October 23, 2021, in Denton, Texas. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, Garland Carr and Georgia Perry Carr, his brother Gary Carr, sister Garlene Bach, and son-in-law Rawdon Allen.

Glenn grew up in Bishop Texas, where as a star athlete, he earned a football scholarship to the University of Houston and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1966. While at U of H Glenn met and married Julia Etta Cushion and they had Dale Brady Carr and Jan Maurice Carr. He moved his family to Odessa, Tx in 1972 and would live there for over forty years. He spent most of his professional career with El Paso Products and RefChem Engineering.

On Valentine's Day 1983, Glenn married Glenda Shaddix Ellis and inherited two more daughters, Sharon and Teresa Ellis. At one point, the Carrs juggled the upkeep of eight automobiles and three kids in college at the same time, but over the decades they had many memorable men vs women pool volleyball games to make up for it.

Glenn was athletic and took pride in the sports activities of his children. He loved watching Dale play football both at Permian High School and Colorado State University, then become head football coach at Tyler Jr College and Angelo State University. He and Dale loved to bird hunt and carried on that sport together until a few years ago. Glenn also had a star basketball player in Jan while she was at Permian High School. Later she and her dad enjoyed playing golf and snow skiing together with her late husband Rawdon. Being a NERD Engineer, Glenn was thrilled when Jan became an Aggie grad and Biomedical Engineer.

In 1986, came the first grandchild, Brian, followed by Allison, Alyssa, Ben, Nathan, Jordan, and Nicole. Glenn and Glenda were always excited to attend their various activities. They also got to enjoy time with their seven great grandbabies born over the last four years. Family was dear to Glenn. He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to the end.

Glenn and Glenda were always on the go, whether at Church, with friends or family, and especially to new destinations around the globe. Glenn was a Methodist, but he was faithful to attend the First Baptist Church in Odessa, and then First Baptist Denton with Glenda. He enjoyed many years of Bible Study with their Sunday School Class at Prude Ranch. For the past six years they made their home at Robson Ranch, outside of Denton, Texas to be nearer medical and family. Glenn achieved the ultimate in Golf glory with a HOLE IN ONE at the Robson Ranch Golf course. He loved Robson and their many dear friends. He also loved fishing and especially enjoyed experiencing it in Africa, Aruba, Mexico, Alaska, Belize, Jamaica, Canada, Florida, and Hawaii. Glenn and Glenda traveled the world and had many adventures. He always said he didn't want to see what man built but what GOD made. When he climbed the Machu Picchu with Glenda in hand, he was thrilled to see God's handiwork. Now he is with GOD in all his glory.

Although Glenn was in poor health much of the last decade, he always knew the LORD would hold him up. Over the last month of his life Glenn was able to see everyone and share old memories. Even in his pain, his Celebration of Life on October 16th was such a special day filled with laughter and fellowship that will be a lasting memory for the whole family.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Glenda Shaddix Carr, son Dale (Vanessa) Carr of Midland, TX, daughters Jan Allen of Tempe, AZ, Sharon Michie of Dallas, TX, Teresa (Allen) Dutt of Whitehouse, TX, grandchildren Ben Carr of Dallas, TX, Alyssa Carr of Midland, TX, Nathan Allen and Jordan Allen of Tempe AZ, Brian (Maggie) Michie, Allison (Matthew) Lucas both of Dallas, TX, Nicole (Gage) Lydahl of Whitehouse, TX, and finally seven precious great grandbabies who loved their Papa Glenn so much. Glenn is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will continue the celebration of his life on November 20, 2021 at 2pm in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church located 1100 Malone St, Denton, Tx. Gifts may be directed to First Baptist Church Denton, Samaritan's Purse, or a favorite charity.
