James Hornsby Obituary

James "Jimmy " Harvey Hornsby

James "Jimmy" Harvey Hornsby, 56, left this earth from his home on Panhandle St. on Monday, May 31, 2021 after a year long battle with cancer. He was born November 7, 1964 at Flow Memorial Hospital¸ and grew up on Panhandle St. along with his sister Damia and parents Betty and Harvey Hornsby.

As a young child, he and his sister had lots of fun playing with the many children in the neighborhood. He attended Denton schools and took car mechanic classes at Denton High School. Throughout his life he had many jobs involving mechanics of some kind and always loved working on cars. At one point he began working in his parent's store - HMS Art and Frame Shop - and took over ownership when they died. He enjoyed working with the college students and local artists in town, helping them find their supplies, teaching them to mat their art work and framing the pieces of art. His final job was at Titus Trucking, where once again he got to work on large vehicles. He stated that working on the big rigs was hard work but he loved it. Jimmy was a very kindhearted and friendly man who loved his family and friends deeply.

Jimmy is survived by his girlfriend, Rene Barber, sons Michael Black, Jason Black, Jordan Hornsby, and Cory Hornsby, and his sister Damia Cleaver. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren. Because of his deep love for God, we rest in the assurance that he is now at peace, free of pain and with all the loved ones who departed before him. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 28, at 6:00 at Rancho dela Roca in Aubrey.

My heart goes out to you Cory and your family , your dad was a special guy. Funny with quick wit and a good listener .I always enjoyed our talks so much so that I came down from Canada to meet him and you . Even thou I only spoke very briefly to and your dad I felt like I had found a lost friend of many years. I share your sorrow and think of your Dad often. I'm not sure how to begin typing this out but I'll start with saying, you were my hero dad. I always no matter what looked up to you. You made me think in ways I NEVER would have imagined. I used to not care about much but you showed me how to be a good person, how to treat peoppe with respect and about love, dignity and workmanship. I want to live the rest of my life making choices as if you were rite there over my shoulder because you had such an amazing heart you always taught me how to be a good person. I miss you so damn much I'm so sorry I wasn't there the night you passed it gets to me everytime I think of you...like why did I have to run off I should have been rite there by your side like you made sure you were for me. I think about you every morning your my first thought and I look at your pictures and think about you every night. I'm so sorry for the last few years we had together I wasn't a good son there at the end and it eats at me every single day... but I promise you I will make you proud and I will always remember the many great wonderful things you've taught me since I was as young. You will never be forgotten and I hope you and mom are up there living it up in Heaven. I'm sure my time will come and we will see each other again very soon. You and mom and all of my friends I've sadly lost mean so much to me not a day will go by that i will not think of you all.
---P.s.----
Your long time friends from when you were a "hoodlum" as youd say are gonna come visit and were all gonna have a celebration in your honor. You had such a big heart dad everyone would say how compassionate and loving you were you were just all around a great individual in everyone's eyes..I hope to be half the man you were. Thank you pops for ensuring I had such a great life. I love and miss you so so much.. see you soon poppason and mommason you two are my motivation to succeed in this life. It's so hard without you tho.
-Love,

Cory Hornsby the youngun
