JOE GERALD ALFORD

1933- 2021

On September 30, 2021, Joe Alford, a longtime and beloved Denton resident, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Joe was born on May 31, 1933, in Weatherford, Texas to Ruth Baker and Clarence Lee Alford. Joe graduated from Weatherford High School in 1950. He then moved to Denton where he graduated from The University of North Texas in 1953.

Joe was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and later St. Andrew Presbyterian, where he served as an elder.

Joe is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Betty. He is also survived by sons Mark and Matthew; daughter-in-law Ginger Alford; grandsons Jake, Sam and Lee Alford; granddaughters Emma Alford, Marley McConnell and Meredith McConnell; and nieces Betty Pennell and Penny Sadler.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on Wednesday October 6 at 11:00 AM. The memorial service will be streamed live at www.standrewdenton.com

Of all the men I have known in Denton over the years, Joe was the best of the best. I will miss that sparkle in his eye, the joy in his voice and his amazing dress shirts! Denton is not the same without men like him. But am glad that I will get to see my friend again in heaven, because I know he is there.

I always enjoyed my time spent with Joe over the short time that I knew him. I loved his appreciation for the arts, his dedication to his church, his involvement in his community and most of all, his love for his beautiful family.
