Larry Byrom Obituary
Larry Michael Byrom, 70, of Pilot Point, TX, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in Taos, NM. Michael was born March 15, 1948 in Aubrey, TX to Ivis Floyd and Virgie Mae (Hard) Byrom. Michael married Lana Sue Witt on June 3, 1966 in Aubrey, TX.
Michael graduated from Pilot Point High School in 1966. He served in the US Army as a Medical Corpsman from 1968-1970 with D Company, 2nd Battalion/47th Mechanized Infantry, 9th Divison. He was a field medic in the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam War. Michael retired from the University of North Texas where he worked in Facilities Management. He worked as a farmer/rancher and was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardner.
Michael is survived by his wife, Lana Byrom of Pilot Point, TX; daughter, Michelle Bennett and husband Christopher of Argyle, TX; two grandchildren, Natalie Bennett, Kassidy Reynolds and husband David Bolton; brother, Clifford Byrom and wife Karin of Aubrey, TX; two sisters, Melba Phares and husband Tom Enloe of Denton, TX and Marsha Byrom also of Denton, TX; daughter-in-law, Candace Reynolds; and sister-in-law, Judy Byrom.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Ivis and Virgie; son, Keith Byrom; and brother, Otis Bryom.
Visitation will be held 6:30PM-7:30 PM, Monday, August 27, 2018 at Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey, TX. A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Slay Memorial Chapel of in Aubrey, with Buddy Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Belew Cemetery in Aubrey, TX.
Arrangements are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center. in Aubrey, TX. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com.

Sometimes the Lord offers us an opportunity to see his love in the fabric of a family. This was the case for us this past week when we stopped near Red River, New Mexico. Our Lord gives us the assurance that as we are absent from the body we are present with him in the blink of an eye. We hold on to that truth and remember the blessings given us with Michael's presence in our lives. I know I would have loved this guy, because I saw the love in in his family on a roadside in the mountains of New Mexico. As a Vietnam Era veteran, I can say "Welcome Home, Michael" but more importantly...Our Lord and savior says Welcome Home Michael !

Michael was a cousin that I didn't really get to know until about 10 years ago. I just loved him. He was so sweet, soft spoken, and pleasant to be around. I enjoyed his sense of humor and looked forward to seeing him. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful person.

Michael was one of the first people I met at UNT. He built my first office in Facilities. He invited me to eat lunch with all the "Seasoned" UNT employees and made me feel welcome.
When Michael found out that I liked deer meat and my husband did not hunt, he would give me packages when it was time to clean out his freezer.
When my son met Michael for the first time, he said: "Mom, I like him he's like a big Teddy Bear."
I am honored to have met Michael and will miss him. I am sad that I did not get to see him when he stoped by UNT about 2 weeks ago. My condolences to his family and prayers for peace and joyful memories.
