Antonio Calderon Acosta Obituary

Antonio (Tony) Calderón Acosta "Mosca" was born in Tlazazalca, Michoacán, Mexico on April 10, 1954. His parents were Maria De Jesus (Jesusita) Acosta Villareal Calderón and Miguel Jose Jeronimo Calderón Camacho. Celebrating the life of Antonio, he loved life, his family, and soccer. He came to the United States in '72 with a big heart and big dreams. He met his wife Annabelle (Anna) Jo Garcia de Calderón in '73 and they were married in '78. The greatest accomplishments in his life were his 3 children; Antonio Jr, Michael Joseph, Ana Marie. Antonio worked in the construction industry as a bricklayer for most of the major home builders in Colorado. He started his own home and commercial construction company in '00 providing the masonry and brick work. He used his expertise to give back by working on an addition to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where he and his family attended and all 3 of his children were baptized. Besides his family, Antonio's passion was soccer. He played the midfield and forward positions and was recruited by many teams for his ability to score. Blasts from set pieces around midfield were his signature shots. He played with passion which helped his teams win championships. One of Antonio's most memorable moments was attending the '86 World Cup in Mexico. The Colorado Stars recruited and selected Antonio for their professional soccer team in '77. That season he had an opportunity to showcase his skills against the nation's best. A fond memory of his was playing against the Los Angeles Aztecs with George Best. His soccer friends were from all around the world and referred to him as "Mosca." In '98 he drove his family to visit his home town of Tlazazalca, Michoacán for a month and introduced them to his family, friends and culture. His family had the opportunity to experience Mexico through his eyes. He found joy in sharing countless stories about the days of his youth. He also loved his music and dancing. His playlist consisted of his favorites like Vicente Fernandez and Antonio Aguilar. He was always entertaining and often brought the music everywhere he went. Antonio was also a great cook. His family was able to experience his specialties which included his steaks and homemade salsas weekly. On February 7, 2008 Antonio was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer, a bone marrow and blood cancer. Antonio was 6'2" tall before the cancer; his backbone deteriorated with the cancer and collapsed 5 inches. He had two autologous transplants and a donor transplant all with medications, chemo, transfusions, hospital stays, and appointments. Antonio has always had the will to fight for what he believed in and most importantly his family. He kept that mentality throughout his fight with Myeloma and really cherished the additional time he was afforded. Each day was a gift and he made sure to make the most of it. His wife Anna was always by his side from the day they met. She was his rock and the love of his life. Antonio loved her and they became even closer with each passing day. He was a great person, but even a better husband, brother, and father. He left a blue print for his kids, which is fitting as a contractor. That blue print was a simple saying, "Just Kick Ass." These simple words are a testament to everything he was able to accomplish in his life. He proved that with hard work and determination, there is nothing that you can't accomplish. His generosity, selflessness, vibrant spirit, and above all else, his presence will be missed by all. Antonio passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013, at 12:25pm. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Brother Miguel (Martha), Sister Delfina (Jose) and Baby Sister Maria Guadalupe. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Danny (Otililla), Jesse (Julia), Juan (Maria), Jose (Maria De Jesus), Maria Villaseñor (Antonio), Pedro (Rosa), Alfonso (Ruth), Maria Guadalupe Madrigal (Armando), Father-in-law Joseph Steve Garcia, Mother-in-law Julia Hermosillo Garcia, Sister-in-law Joan Garcia, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Tia Anna, Tony Jr., Michael and Ana Marie my thoughts are with you. I can tell you that Tio Mosca (Tony) was one of my favorite uncles. He made ma laugh and I was lucky enough to spend time with him when we drove down to Mexico with him and hung out one summer. I have some pictures I'll dig up and share.
