Barbara Greene Obituary

Greene, Barbara Anne
June 30, 1944 - May 28, 2022

With heavy hearts, the family of Barbara Anne Greene, born Barbara Anne Sturm on 30 June 1944 in Governors Island, N.Y., announces her passing. Barbara is survived by her partner, Jack Shields, of Aurora, CO; her sister, Linda Payne, and brother-in-law, Paul Payne, of Atlantic Beach, N.C.; her son, Christopher Greene, and daughter-in-law, Liz Greene, of Denver, CO; her son, Stephen Greene, and daughter-in-law, Susan Greene, of Acton, MA; and her four grandchildren, Fiona, Norah, Kaelyn, and Declan. In honoring her request that her family and friends always "choose to dance," a celebration of life event will be held June 23, 2PM-6PM at Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club, 23155 E Heritage Parkway, Aurora, CO 80016. We ask attendees to wear bright colors.

Barbara cherished time spent with family and friends, taking the opportunity to travel whenever possible. She retired in Aurora, CO, where she met Jack Shields, enjoying a loving relationship. Her life centered on her family; her extended family, the Shields; and her fellow Driveway Divas.

Before retiring, Barbara's unrelenting passion and commitment to nursing and the care of others spanned a 50 year career as a Registered Nurse. She led Standardized Patient Education at the Institute for Clinical Competence within New York Institute of Technology's College for Osteopathic Medicine where she helped fourth year medical students prepare for their practical exams and boards and introduced curriculum improvements to advance future doctors' ability to provide better patient care. She also served as Director of Healthcare Services for Interim Home HealthCare where she was responsible for the quality of care provided by 200 nurses and care providers. Barbara spent the earlier part of her career as an ER, staff, private care and head nurse. She was a graduate of Mercy Medical Center's School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and received several awards for her dedication and professionalism.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Barbara's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
