At peace, and with her family, Betsy Marberry, 66, died on August 4, 2018. A proud 40-year veteran teacher, Betsy moved to Colorado in 1974 with her new husband, Hal Morris, whom she met at Rice University. Her career began under the steady guidance of Bert Moore and Gerry Bullard in the first year of the merger that created Kent Denver School. Betsy and her family deeply appreciate the many generous tributes from friends, colleagues, and students during her intense battle with malignant melanoma. She is remembered as boundlessly energetic, intelligent, inspiring, unyielding, irrepressible, full of love for those around her, and sharing that love without judgment or pretense. Betsy was a tireless advocate for underprivileged and under-served students. She is deeply missed for those qualities and values and so many more. Betsy's Kent Denver colleagues and her adopted family at STRIVE Preparatory Schools put those values into action influencing and nurturing their students every day. So, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Betsy in the spirit in which she lived are invited to direct any memorials to the STRIVE Prep Schools network or the KDS Faculty Fund for Scholarships. Betsy is survived by her brother Dr. Tom Marberry, her husband Hal, and the lights of her life: children Tom Morris and Susan Morris Ovuworie, and son-in-law Niffy Ovuworie. Her family is most grateful for the caring staff and loving hands of Porter Hospice. The song she sang, and singing made, is now stilled. But that tuneful melody lingers on and on. Betsy's family will gather for a private service as she directed.

To Hal, Susan and Tom,
I was blessed to know your wife/mom and work with her for the 8 years that I recruited in Denver for Occidental College. Her compassionate spirit, concern for social justice and equityy, love of students and family left an indelible mark on me and, I am sure on many others. And, she truly kindled my passion for golf! In the last Christmas card we received a few years ago you could feel the joy and satisfaction she found in how your lives were progressing, Tom and Susan. Some of my favorite memories are of going with Betsy to watch you both play soccer on weekends when I stayed in Denver.
I pray that God will bring peace and comfort to each of you and replace your sorrow and tears with cherished memories and smiles through the work of the spirit.

Hi Morris family - I wonder if you will remember me babysitting for you when I was in high school for the Bronco season. Betsy was an amazing person. She was a teacher who made math fun and funny. She was a college advisor who helped me beyond explanation - ideas, inspiration, and direction. That impact on young people (on me personally) is immeasurable. I am so sorry for your loss and feel fortunate/grateful to have known her.

I woke up yesterday wondering how she was doing and now this. I know it has been a tough road. I will always value our close friendship, her smile, her energy, her common interest in math, her open door, and her family. Hal, Susie, and Tom, my heart goes out to you. Bev from Kenyon College

To Betsy's family, I am sad for your loss, but I have heard how positive in spirit she was as she faced her illness over the years. I saw some wonderful pictures of her and her family and friends on the fields of Kent Denver early in July. She had such a smile and confidence then. I was privileged to teach her in Ancient History when she was a 9th grader at Casady School. Very competitive student! Her mother was a master teacher at Casady. We will all miss her but I know she meant so much to the kids she taught and for years to come that will be her legacy. Love from Casady School

I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. Growing up with Susan and Tom, Betsy was a second mother in a lot of ways. She was always so generous and caring with us, even when we were less than well-behaved. She will truly be missed. My deepest condolences to you in this difficult time.

Betsy, being your colleague for so many years was a privilege. Your boundless energy, dedication, love for your students and courage were inspiring. When I started my career at Kent, I also admired the strong woman that you were. I do have many fond memories of you! I will not forget how you beamed whenever you spoke about Tom and Susan, how proud of them you were. We also had great fun planning your trip to Paris together. I am so very thankful for your patience, encouragement and compassion when you taught Audrée. Above all, I am grateful for your generous spirit, humor and support during all these years as your colleague. May your rest in peace, Betsy. Your spirit and heart remain with us.

Dear Hal, Tom, Susan, my family and I send you much love and our heartfelt condolences. You have been and will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

With Love,
Maud, Mark, Audrée and Jacques.

Dear Morris family, my heart is heavy as I morn the loss of a cherished colleague whom I've known for 44 years. When Benita and I saw her last (at Costco!) before Christmas her smile was as radiant and warm as always. She caught us up on news of your family including a brief, breezy report on her health. My sad condolences to you all. Love, Ed

Betsy and Hal were such a positive influence in the life of both my children, Gretchen Hellums Ferreira and Lt. Col. (Dr.) Josh Hellums. They babysat and loved up on both of them and left them with such great memories of how kind and loving really smart people could be. I am so grateful that they were in out lives. May she rest in peace and may her memory always be a blessing to all who loved her, me included.
