Charles Ver Straten Obituary

VER STRATEN, Pastor Chuck passed away on Friday, November 11, 2005 at the age of 76. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jacque; 4 daughters, Debby (Dave), Rebecca (Dave), Catherine (Fred), and Cindie (Steve); 9 grandchildren; and 1 greatgrandchild. Chuck, a former cowboy from Wyoming, became a pastor, serving 50 years in ministry. He loved to pastor and pray, and he participated in many worldwide and local community prayer ministries. A Memorial Service will be held for Pastor Chuck on Tuesday, 11/15 7:00pm at Mission Hills Church, 5859 S. University Blvd. Greenwood Village, 80121. Memorials are welcomed and can be sent to Mission Hills Church for the "Ver Straten Scholarship" for Denver Seminary Students.

I served under Pastor Chuck in my first ministry in Greeley Colorado. I praise God for Chucks example in all aspects of life. He was a great example in being a husband, father and most of all a Pastor. We know now that Chuck is more alive now than he has ever been. He is experiencing what he served the Lord for 50 years for. The joy of his Lord.

We were priviledge to have Pastor Chuck as our adult Sunday school teacher for many years. His teachings were always a blessing to all. He will be greatly missed by the class and the church family.

Our prayers are sent to his family and to comfort them during this time.

Even though we have moved from the area, we still consider our class as part of our family, Gods family, as we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.

My life has been truly blessed by the influence Pastor Chuck had on me as a member of Mission Hills Church for many years, but most important, he taught me by example the power and joy of prayer. We will truly miss him, but know that he is worshipping the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in person now!

Our friendship with Dr. VerStraten is one life's treasures. We are very proud of our classmate and are grateful for his example of faith through the years. He touched our lives and inspired us. We send our love and sympathy to Jacque and all of his family.

I remember when Pastor Chuck did our evening wedding rehearsal (Feb. 12, 1982 at Mission Hills) and our soloist Linda Dempsey sang The Wedding Song in a hurried fashion sounding like one of the Disney's chipmunks. Chuck laughed so hard through the "fast" run-through it became a "long" run-through of the ceremony.

Plus he kept calling us Mr. & Mrs. Glen Miller (the big band guy) instead of Mr. & Mrs. Glen Mills (our correct name). It was a fun rehearsal. Glen & I have been married 23 years.
