Daniel Lunger Obituary

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember him. Dan, 16, passed away on Aug 23, 2006 in Westminster, CO. An accomplished competitive swimmer and Eagle Scout, Dan had just begun his Junior year at Stanley Lake High School. His infectious smile, sense of humor and brilliant personality will be missed by those he left behind. These include his parents Howard and Susy, his brother Matt, his grandmothers Anne Hunt and Norma Lunger, other family members and many, many cherished friends, coaches and mentors. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm with services to follow at 3:00pm on Sat. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (20th and Wadsworth). Memorial contributions can be made to the Daniel J. Lunger Memorial Fund; c/o Key Bank, 1675 Broadway Street, Denver, CO 80202. Dan is now a guardian angel who will light the way for many of us.

My heart-felt sympathy for your loss...I'll always remember Dan's smile and how it would light up our classroom. He had the most amazing gift for bringing happiness with him wherever he went. I know he is bringing joy to angels now, and that the peace of God is with him.

Dear Lunger Family,
This is long overdue. I was lucky to know Dan. He was such an amazing person who always seemed to be around when there was something happening. He would usually say something and make me laugh and it would all be better. I remember Dan had the car keys one day and Matt and I were trying to go somewhere, we had to track Dan down only to learn someone else actually had the keys...needless to say Matt was a little angry but it was just something about that moment and Dan's smile that for some reason I think about that moment a lot. Dan was just amazing. I miss him a lot. You are so strong as a family. God Bless You All.

Always,
Alexandra Nelson

Dear Dan, I loved you when I first met you. You brought a presence into a room that made people forget all of their troubles and just be with you. You loved swimming so much that to watch you swim was a gift to all present eyes. Thank you so much for being a part of my life and inspiring me to not be afraid of telling those whom I care for that I love them. Losing you was a tremendous hole in the hearts of many. You should know that we all miss you and are very sad you're gone. I still can't believe you've passed because your spirit is so very much alive. You touched the hearts of everyone you ever spoke to. I'm sorry that you left this planet without you and I being better friends. I understand that you had to go to teach us to tell those we love that we love them and to forgive those who have wronged us. You are with God now and the love that God has must be incredible. I hope you are having as much fun in heaven as you did in this lifetime. Your mother is the strongest woman I know. I am so very proud of her. Thank you for bringing us together, she is a great woman. Thanks for helping send me to Sectionals this year! I love and miss you. We shall never forget Daniel Joseph Lunger.

Dear Lunger Family-
Today (Memorial Day) me, my mom, jess, amy, matt, and amy's dad went to clean up dan's road and plant some flowers by his sign. I can't wait until the flowers grow, and I really hope they will. It took a while, and I can honestly say I almost cried like 50 million times. I still miss him like crazy but I know he's there for me smiling just like always

Dan was a very nice and sweet person although I didn't know him well him and my sister were very good friends. Every story she would tell me would make me laugh and laugh and smile as she did. Dan is just one of the people that you go to if you need a smile. I'm sorry for the loss.

Dear Howard and Suzy:
I've book marked Dan's guest book to return to often to remind me of how a person is supposed to live. Even though he was just a young person, he lived his life so abundantly. Somehow, most of us miss that lesson, so when someone like Dan is taken early, it's a wake up call to the rest of us. The light shines on his life and reminds us not to waste time, to go for your dreams, love deeply, and to spread goodness, acceptance and positive energy in the world. What a blessing it is to see what an impact he had.
Thank you for sharing this message with all of us.
God bless you all,

I just heard the news today, you may not remember me from swimming. However, a long time ago on a swim club called lake orion liquid lightning, Dan and I were rivals. It sadden me when he left. He was a great swimmer and a great friend. Andrew Kuehl told me the news, he was friends with Matt. Anyway I wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss.

I just wanted to say that I know what today means for Corinne. The 20th. Today would be the 1 year and 10 month anniversary for Corinne and Dan, and it pains me that they can't see each other and celebrate. Lord knows, and the entire Standley Lake population knows, that Corinne and Dan would have spent the rest of their lives together.

I love Dan, then and now...and forever. He is truly missed. I hope God enjoys Dan's company because everyone here on earth sure misses having him.

Hey honey. I know you're doin good up there. Eatin chipotle, swimmin, livin the dream. You are missed so much down here though! When I found out you passed, I denied it. I couldn't believe it. It took a long time for it to sink in. But then I realized why you had to go. You were needed more as an angel and heaven has one heck of one now! It was absolutely crazy to see how many different people's lives you touched in one way or another, including mine. We had so many fun times and I will always remember them. You will always be in my heart! We all miss you so much! See you soon! Love you!

To the Lunger Family,
I decided today that I'd do a search on google for Dan Lunger to see what came up. There is so many different things in here. I am SO proud of him. You should be proud too, not just of him, but of yourselves for raising such an amazing person. I loved Dan very much and will never in my life forget all the happy memories that I shared with him, and with your family. I love you guys so much! You are in my heart and in my prayers for years and years to come!

Dan-
Baby, you were an inspiration to so many people. I wish you could know how many people were so deeply saddened by the news of your passing. I miss you more and more every day. And I remember you in even the smallest little things. But what I remember most was the night we sat in your backyard looking at the stars and singing songs to each other about how in love we were and picking names for our future children. Those names belong to US, and I swear they always will, as will you and your heart to me! I will always remember you and the love we shared. I miss you more than you'd ever imagine. We thought 5 weeks in Germany was bad- think again! *forever and ever baby*

I love you guys! Thanks again for raising the most amazing child, friend, boyfriend, and inspiration anyone could ever ask for!
Love Always and Forever,
Corinne

We first met Dan when he was a rambunctious eight year old and we all found so much joy watching him grow up and become such a wonderful young man. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of knowing him and having him make such a positive impact on our own son. Last night Christian made a very poignant comment about Dan when he said to me, "I always looked up to him." Frankly, we all did.
