Friend, you have been a model for me during and after your time. Been some years but you are not forgotten. Training, deployment, boxing to morning muster, you made us all laugh as a TEAM. The book stands atop of my bookshelf and is a daily reminder of the brave who willingly gave all, while those of us just gave ....God Bless you Danny.

On this 12th anniversary of Operation Red Wings, we pause to pay tribute to the courage, heroism and outstanding efforts of Danny Dietz, his fellow SEALs and all who died in attempting to rescue the Team.

Hey bro,
I never got to meet you but your legacy is what led me to make the final step into the Navy and to join special operations. I am out of the service now but living alongisde my fellow vets, striving to make life better for them. I realized today that I am the same age now that you were when you died and I can't help being thankful that I didn't have to die today surrounded by my enemies, although part of me wishes I could have been there to help you and your team. God Bless you and your family.

Tomorrow the movie "Lone Survivor" opens here in Australia. While I'm sure that it tells much of what occurred on that mountain, I know that without the effort, courage and ultimate sacrifice of yourself, Murphy and Axelson, there would be no story. You each remain honoured and respected by all who were privileged to know you, and by those of us who only learned of you in later times. Rest easy PO2 Dietz.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Danny will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part. I salute you.
For those missing in action;for those who didn't make it home.I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.For every neatly folded flag;for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory. I salute you, allow me the honorto salute you with permission let me say even though I hold no rank know that from my heart my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part. I salute you.

I Salute You.

I wish I had known Petty Officer 2nd CL Danny P. Dietz. I just learned of his passing and even though some time has gone by since that day in 2005, I want to say, at this time, that I honor him for his bravery and his ultimate of all sacrifices. I salute his life and the giving of it and will not let him be forgotten.

To Danny's wife, children, parents, family and friends, I know you still miss him terribly...and still grieve in your own private ways. Life does go on here and laughter has returned, but I want to tell you that I will keep all of you in my prayers as long as God gives me the breath to do so. I have prayed for all of you before now without knowing of you before now. I have shed tears along with all of our soldier's families. I feel as if each of our soldiers are truly the sons and daughters of all Americans and therefore mine, too. Please know that you are not alone in your tears for Danny and know that you can contact me at any time you wish to talk or need some extra prayer. Regardless, prayers of may are spoken for you every day.

Danny, thank you for your life..and how you touched so many during your life. Thank you for your sacrifice of that life for the freedom of many. We will never forget you. Your work on earth will benefit many in future generations. I look forward to meeting up with you and getting to know you when my time on earth is over, also. Until then, rest in peace, our son. You well deserve it.

God bless Danny's family, friends and all who may read this.

Written with the hope that all who love this fine young American, those who called him friend, those with whom he served and above all, his family, will have peace as they approach this anniversary. No one reading the story of the heroic actions of Danny and his mates could remain unmoved by the courage each showed in the face of great adversity. While we will always feel sad that these youngsters were granted so few years on earth, they leave behind examples of lives well lived, filled with purpose and a determination to do the right thing at all costs. We must always keep them in mind and try to be worthy of their sacrifice as we go about our daily tasks. Rest in peace Danny - rest in peace.

Danny and family,

In my prayers are the lives and memories of lost friends and loved ones. And forever in my memory will live the friends and lives that I have known and loved.
I met Danny in elementary and left littleton in my 9th grade year from Goddard.

Danny, I will never forget that interupted gathering on windermere when you became the center of attention, and I still admire the patience you gave to that situation until all was revealed. That was great.

I've seen everything the last few years but now have to tell your family that they were witnesses to the best part of us all and that you are one of the best men I have ever known. And I only knew you for a short time.

You will be forgotten by no one.

Thank you for bringing his life to all of those that did not know him and showing us all that the bravery and heroism of this country lived in littleton.

My father is on his sixth tour in Iraq and he wants to thank you for the all that you gave.

All of your family danny has my deepest sympathy and may you Rest In Peace, until we see you again.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Danny, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Today it's an honor and a privilege to sign this memorial page for Petty Officer Danny P Dietz.
I've seen the interviews with Marcus Luttrell, and I've read much on numerous sites about the actions of Danny, Mike Murphy,Matthew Axelson and Marcus, and always thought what fine young men they were. The photos of each man tell us a lot. Clearly family was important to them, as was love of country. Their rating in their chosen branch of the Service tells us more - they were the best of the best, although each would undoubtedly shrug off such a title.
I'm saddened to think that they weren't able to realise all the promise that was so evident, but all packed more living into their few years than many do in a lifetime. I can only hope that their loved ones are comforted by the love and support of others, and by the knowledge that each was doing exactly what he wanted to do with his life.
Rest Well P/O Dietz - your duty honorably done, for you were faithful to the end.

Talked to JC over my last break and he had mentioned we'd met a few times when I was living with him. Small world in many ways. Keep the spirit alive, and keep a watchful eye over your brothers in arms-we'd all appreciate the company durring those needed times. Thank you for everything my brother!
