Edna Eddy Obituary

Edna L. Eddy passed away on October 16, 2014 at approximately 6 p.m . She was 85 years old. She died of natural causes surrounded by family. She was born April 25 1929 in Lumberton, NM to Jose Manuel Lobato and Emma Valdez Montoya. She was the oldest daughter in a family of nine children. In 1948 she trained at Mercy Hospital to become a nurse. In the mid 1950's she joined the Army and served as a nurse at Sandia NM. In the late 1950's she met Frank W. Eddy while he was working on the Navajo Dam Project. They were married soon afterwards at Kirkland Air Force base. In 1963 Edna lived in Egypt while her husband worked on the Aswan High Dam Project in Cairo. She always had fond memories of this experience living along the Nile in the desert. In 1964 she and Frank moved to Boulder Colorado. When Frank had completed his PhD work they relocated to Austin, after a couple of years they returned to Boulder CO where she would continue to live until 2006. In the 1970's she returned to school and achieved her RN license. Edna was a lifelong nurse, working well into her 70's. In 2006 she moved back to Durango to be near to her brothers, sisters and other family. She was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of the parish at St. Columba Catholic Church in Durango. For most of her life Edna enjoyed league bowling. Most important to her was spending time with family. She loved cooking and even had a number of dishes she was "famous" for. All throughout her life she enjoyed fishing, dancing, sewing, knitting, crossword puzzles, and going to the casinos. Edna Eddy is survived by her son Frank Lobato Eddy; her sisters Theresa Romero and Cora Reed, respectively from Durango CO and Aztec NM; her brothers Joe Montoya, Rubel Montoya, and Frank Montoya, all of Durango CO as well. She is preceded in death by her brothers Manuel Lobato and Dessie Valdez and her sister Tonia Maestas. She had numerous loving nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins. Edna Eddy requested to be cremated and to have her ashes placed with her mother and step-father at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango. She also requested to have a mass at St. Columba Catholic Church, her most recent home parish. Per her request a full mass will be held in the near future.
