I would like to extend my sympathy to Eric's friends and loved ones. I met Eric last fall when he came to my home to inspect the installation of a furnace. I was impressed by his willingness to make sure I understood how to operate a digital thermostadt and appreciate the biggest purchase I have made as a homeowner. He was very kind and patient and left me with a lasting positive impression.

I had the fortunate opportunity to play football with Eric and also be one of his fraternity brothers. I was a few years older than Eric and played on the offensive side of the ball, so I never spent a significant amount of time with his class. However, I always respected his work ethic and the quiet demeanor that he brought with him to practice on a daily basis. That work ethic on the field and the weight room always served our team well and was an example to the rest of us. My heart goes out to all of Eric's family and friends. Eric will be missed greatly.

I had the pleasure of spending four years of my life at the University of Puget Sound in close association with Eric, both on the football field and as one of his pledge brothers. He was unique in his willingness to sacrifice for a friend and had a truly unforgettable personality. He has shared in many of my very fondest memories. I knew him, as many of his teammates did, as Chaput. No one worked harder, had a better attitude, or was more willing to help his fellow teammate up off the ground. He greeted everyone with a positive energy that was contagious, and his door was always open to those who might need to talk. I will remember him fondly as a good friend.

The world is a little darker with the loss of Eric. He was the type of person who drew you in. From our time together at Puget Sound, I found Eric to be caring and curious. He was genuinely interested in people and getting to know them. He found a way to constantly be the nicest person in the room. I can honestly say that I left Puget Sound and Phi Delta Theta being a better person, in part, because of Eric.

Lyllis called me last night (Monday) and told me about Eric. I am so sorry to hear this and you and all of your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I did not know Eric, but had talked over the years to Beth about him, or had an update from Lyllis.
