Eugene Alton O'Brien

O'BRIEN, EUGENE ALTON, 79, passed away in the arms of his loving family on May 29. He was born May 29, 1929 to William and Beulah O'Brien in Muskogee, OK. He grew up in Southern California and graduated from Pasadena City High. He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1953. It was there he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Klepp. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers and built Airfields in England. A petroleum Geologist, he spent his entire career successfully exploring for and finding oil and gas in the Rocky Mountain West. For him, solving the puzzle of what was going on 8,000 feet underground was an exciting challenge. He retired in 1996 after a productive career with Texaco, Chorney Oil, and Swenco-Western. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ralph, and his beloved wife of 50 years, Betty. He is survived by his sister, Janet Atkinson, and his children and the pride of his life, Mike O'Brien, Mark O'Brien, and Kathy (Bill) Allred, and cherished granddaughter, Kim. He loved bowling, fishing, and golf. It was his fervent wish that people of the World would have a basic understanding of the History of the Planet they walk on every day before they attempt to predict its future. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Children's Hospital in his wife's name or The Colorado School of Mines in his, for the World needs healthy children with inquisitive minds. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 4th at 3:00 p.m. at Advantage Runyan Stevenson Chapel in Lakewood, Colorado.
