Frank Baker Obituary

HANOVER BAKER, FRANK SHEAFFER 94, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, in Cincinnati, OH. He was born May 20, 1910, in Findlay, OH, to Frank Kaufman and Jennie Sheaffer Baker. He married Marion Weir on June 25, 1935, in Anderson, IN. Mr. Baker graduated from Anderson (IN) High School, in 1926 and the College of Wooster in Wooster, OH, in 1930. His graduate work was at Harvard University and Indiana University. Mr. Baker taught junior high and high school English in Anderson from 1933 until the spring of 1946. In 1946, he began a 29-year career at Hanover College, where he taught English and journalism and worked in public relations. He was advisor to the college newspaper, The Triangle, and the school yearbook, the Revonah. He edited the Hanover Bulletin, the Alumni News and the Hanoverian. At the time of his retirement in 1975, he was the college editor and coordinator of special events. After his retirement from the college, Mr. Baker published two collections of short articles about the history of Hanover College, a photo book of the college and a super yearbook of his high school alma mater, Anderson High. He was preceded in death by a son in 1946 and his wife in 1986. He is survived by children, Frank W. Baker and his wife, Sue, of Cincinnati, Barbara A. Honhart and her husband, Fred, of Laingsburg, MI, and Marilyn B. Resch of Casey, IL; four grandsons and their wives, David and Kris Baker, David and Jena Honhart, Jonathan and Jamie Baker and Stephen and Anika Honhart; and two great-granddaughters, Emily and Megan Baker. A memorial service celebrating the life of Frank Baker will be held at 11 a.m. EST Friday, May 27, 2005, at Hanover Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Jefferson County (IN) Historical Society, Hanover Presbyterian Church, Hanover Historical Society or Hanover College.
