"Miss Lind" was my high school choir teacher at JFK in the early '70's. I guess what comes to mind is that she was rather "fearless" for lack of a better word. For example she treated us like kids who were there to sing and she wasn't going to have any discipline problems so let's get on with it. Not a threat, just a fact. She knew each and every one of us to some extent and also realized that, well, we were kids living through a particularly turbulent time of our lives and, in addition, living through a particularly turbulent era as well...."so let's all just calm down and sing together". I remember one upper classman coming in to the middle of one of one of our rehearsals to say goodbye to Miss Lind. He was very excited as he had just dropped out of school and enlisted in the marines and was off for Vietnam and wanted to say goodbye to Miss Lind before leaving. Miss Lind stopped the class, sat down, and heard him out. Then she asked us how we all felt about that to which we added our "best of luck" and "I've got a brother over there now"and such. He stayed about fifteen or twenty minutes then gave Miss Lind a tearful hug and was gone. Yes, we started up the rehearsal again but, I think, all of us felt that this teacher was really with us and somehow understood us.
What a wonderful, wonderful woman and I will miss her much.
