Jacques Bensard Obituary

Bensard, Jacques J.
11/11/1931 - 04/08/2023

Jacques J. Bensard was born in France, November 11, 1931, and died on April 8, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Denise, his older brother Claude and Jacques and Alexisa's baby son, Alexis Bensard.

February 11, 2013, the love of his life, his wife of sixty-one years passed on. He is survived by his son, Doctor Denis D. Bensard, his wife Jerilyn and granddaughters, Anne and Claire, his younger brother, Gerard Bensard, his wife Sedelle, of Montreal Canada and nephew Phillip Bensard, and niece Jennifer Bensard.

Jacques and Alexisa immigrated to the United States of America in 1953, and were married on August 22, 1953, in the Chapel, Fitzsimons Army Hospital, Aurora, Co. They then made Denver their home. Jacques and Alexisa endeavored themselves to self-educate and learn English.

In 1954, (not yet a citizen), Jacques was drafted in the US Army and served in an infantry unit, intelligence section, Nuremberg Germany. Upon his return, Jacques went to work for the State Industrial School for boys in Golden Colorado as a cottage counselor.

He joined the US Army reserve serving two years. Then on January 15, 1958, Jacques was sworn in as a member of the Denver Police Department, retiring February 1988.

As a parallel career, Jacques joined the Colorado Army National Guard in 1972, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class with troop Command, Camp George West, in Golden, CO.

After retirement, Jacques and his wife decided to make Lake Havasu their winter home. He loved the warmth of the sun. He was an active member of the Lake Havasu Marine Corps League and had many friends.

Jacques was an entrepreneur, general contractor, skilled carpenter, cabinet maker, and was well thought of by his clients. Jacques loved the outdoors; camping, fishing, hunting and travel.

But above all, Jacques was extremely proud of his citizenship, naturalized in 1955, holding his adopted country to the highest degree of loyalty and gratitude. He had many friends he called family. Jacques passing has left a void in our hearts, and he will be greatly missed. May he rest in eternal peace.

Never in my life have I met a man more intelligent, caring, supportive, loving, honest, and (what he considered) funny...in my entire life. I feel more than blessed to have known Jac for my life thus far, and wish I could take the time to explain every lesson He took time to teach me. I love you Jac, and I´ll miss you forever. (Here´s a picture of him in his happy place:)
