John Charles Jordy Sr.

John Jordy Obituary

John Charles Jordy, Sr., 84, passed away on July 14, 2005 in Plan de la Tour, France. Charles was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 7, 1920, where he attended the McDonough School, St. Paul's School, followed by Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. He served as a Captain in the Army in WWII with distinction, rising to the post of Assistant Chief of Transportation for the European Theatre, earning a Bronze Star. After the war he married Alice Swart of Baton Rouge, LA and they moved to Denver in 1952 where he founded Jordy and Company in 1958, a commercial construction firm. They had three children, a son Charles Jr., and two daughters Deborah and Marsha and a grandson Alexander. Alice passed way in 1982 after a long battle with cancer; Charles was constantly at her side, caring for her in every way. Charles re-married Pauline Skinner and they enjoyed a wonderful life together. After his retirement they traveled around the globe and settled in a small village in the South of France where Charles took great pride in celebrating American Holidays and sharing our culture with his French friends and neighbors. He was an avid jazz enthusiast and particularly liked New Orleans Dixieland classics. His other interests included fishing and engaging in lively conversations with good friends and family around the table at Sunday lunches. He was a charitable man and supported causes for children's welfare and education and wildlife preservation. He will be missed by family and many good friends here and abroad. He is survived by his wife Pauline, his son Charles Jr., and his partner Brian Fun, daughters Deborah, and Marsha and her partner Little Buddy, his sister Rita Lowenstein of Towson, Maryland and his grandson Alexander. He'll be remembered for his great wit, his captivating blue eyes and most of all, his caring. He was a true gentleman. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday August 17th at St. John's Cathedral (13th and Clarkson). Memorials may be made in Charles name to The Bridge Project, The University of Denver, 2148 S. High Street, Denver, CO 80208.

My former neighbor here on the Island...and a dear friend. What a zestful and wonderfully vibrant man he was....with all the class and life-experience that gave him such insight! With truly an adventuresome spirit, Charles LIVED his life...he shared, gave, enjoyed & did it all with gusto! I will always miss you, my friend.
