Dear Marilyn, Joe, Janie, and Ted,
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Joe Senior over the weekend. My sister Inga texted me with the news Tuesday afternoon after reading Joe's wonderful obituary in the Post. I had forgotten all about the bright orange bow tie story. I laughed pretty hard at that. In my reflection yesterday I recalled how Joe took me in as a youngster, and shared with me his love of Colorado, engaging conversation, and always positive enlightenment. Most importantly was that he included me in numerous Schieffelin adventures along the way. Although later in life I became a successful Navy Carrier Pilot, nothing ever compared to the thrill of riding down grade at night out of Estes Park in the Schieffelin Chevy camper with Joe at the wheel. With Joe completely oblivious to his surrounding, the van would careen from one side of the canyon to the other at an incredibly high rate of speed, as he drove along singing the Colorado song. On more than one occasion we nearly joined the boulders in the Big T. But somehow we all survived to climb several Fourteeners together, and experience the best fishing ever in Taylor Park. These memories are indelibly engrained in my mind forever and all because Joe was sensitive to my situation and ensured I was not going to miss out. Sandie and I regret that we did not take the time to see Joe in the last years, although Janie did a good job of keeping us posted. Sounds like he loved life right to the end. Now he's with God, and rest assured he is always in our hearts.
God Bless,
Steve and Sandie Thompson

Dear Marilyn, Joe, Ted, Janie and your families,
my Deepest Sympathies for the loss of your Dad!
Working with your Dad for over 25 years, I never knew about his political positions. Very impressive!! I will always have fond memories of Joe; walking in Chris's office with his lunch in a paper bag and the two of them having great conversations. He always had a great attitude, always smiling.
Words cannot ease your pain, but know, that you all are in my thoughts and prayers. May fond memories help heal the pain for your loss.
He will truly be missed!
Love,
Terri Lo Sasso (Secra)
