Matt may have grown, as we all do with age (hopefully) but never changed from the day I met him (almost 25 yrs ago) to the day he passed. My first impression was a man who was kind, inteligent, unassuming, austere, open-minded, ethical and fun-loving. My husband & I moved from the Keys 20 yrs ago to raise our family in Melbourne, Fl, but miles do not interfer with a friendship with Matt.
I remember on one visit, Matt's dog Rosie dug up the flower garden in front of the house. It was OK, didn't bother me; but wouldn't you know it, the next morning, there's Matt, after a trip to a nursery, replacing the plants. Those flowers still bloom every year and always remind us of Matt.
One of the most fun times was 5 of us sitting in a circle in the middle of a seldom used road being awed by watching the incredible number of shooting stars in the Mexican sky and laughing hysterically over what? I don't know! What fun!
Matt Tripp was my friend and I am Proud to be able to say that.
One of his proudest, happiest parts of his life is Jack, his son. Matt was concerned about "how I am I going to play ball with Jackie when I'm 65". No one ever thought of the possibility of Matt having to leave him at 55 yrs old.
I feel very fortunate knowing I had such a good pal. I guess I should feel worse for those who never knew him, but I don't. May I'm too wrapped up in my own loss.
I've always loved Matt, I always will, he touched my soul.
