Philip Alengi Obituary

Philip Jack Alengi passed away from natural causes on December 20, 2010 at The Argyle elderly care facility in North Denver where he had resided for the past year with his wife of 69 years Charlene Alengi. He was born in Kansas City, MO on March 15, 1920; his family moved to Trinidad, Colorado, and later moved to North Denver. Mr. Alengi entered the U.S. Army and served as a heavy equipment driver under General George Patton and was honorably discharged in 1945. Philip was a man of integrity who devoted his life to his wife, Charlene, to his sons, and his family. He cared for his parents, Sam and Lena Alengi and his brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Elaine Alengi as well as his in-laws, Charles and Catherine Harris, until their deaths. He never turned his back on someone in need. Philip is survived by his wife and three of their four sons, Phil (Ruth), Paul (Nancy) and Rick. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe and Nick, his son David and one of his daughters-in-law, Margaret. He has twelve grandchildren, Regina, Angela, Deanna, David II, Dana, Dina, Clarissa, Natalie, Paul, Carlo, Lena, Rick Jr. and nine great grandchildren. "Papa" as he is affectionately known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, was always generous; no one ever left his house without a gift or food. In his younger years he was an avid fisherman who spent time fishing and camping throughout Colorado. He passed along his love of the outdoors to his sons and several of his grandsons. He was a lifelong member and leader for the Teamsters Union both locally and nationally; he frequently assisted in contract negotiations. He began his career as a long distance driver and retired from Consolidated Freightways with many service awards. A private service for the family is planned.

Papa,

Of course I miss you. But as far as I am concerned you are not gone. I am one of the lucky ones. I saw so much of you in my own father and in turn I see so much of my father in me. It doesn't take much to see I am a part of that great gift and for that I am forever thankful. I will see you both again of that I am sure. Until then "all around the water tank".

I sincere sympathy to the sons and family of this patriarch of the Alengi Family. It was my privilege to know him as a member of his family for the past eleven years and no one can fill his shoes. They remain as a testament to his great personality and heart. Rest in peace!
