I met Rick in 1984 at Bogart´s. He instantly wanted to take me sailing. We were engaged 6 months later. He would stop by my apt. at 2am after working that night at Bogarts, and we´d count his tip money. He was an awesome bartender and his tops reflected it. Unfortunately, we didn´t work out, but I have always wondered how he was and where he was. He loved his hot tub and White Russians. He would sing "The Rose" to me....
RIP my friend, Jeri Mars - Dec. 2022 from Vegas, NV.

I was so sad to hear of Ricky J's passing. I have been trying to get in touch with him for awhile and thanks to Ryan was finally able to find out why I couldn't reach this sweet, sweet man. God has another Angle and one heck of bartender to liven things up. No one who ever met him will ever forget him, whether it was at Bogart's, Chap's, Fish Dance, Neo, or Aqua Lounge...Ricky will always be a legend, and has left many with painfully broken hearts ! Take care Godzilla...until we see each other again...

RICKY J SLIDE SHOW IN PROGRESS - LAST CALL FOR PICTURES, MEMORIES, SAYINGS, FAVORITE MUSIC. SEND TO [email protected]
I accidently sent Rick's memorial card before I added the accompanying message:
I have finally scanned 52 pictures of Rick and friends. I tried to enlarge the great pics that were on the large green poster board (at the memorial) but a high resolution digital print or the originals (which will be returned) would produce better results.
A finished copy will be posted here when complete. I will also post to YouTube or send to a requested email address.
I still can't believe he is gone and how much we all miss his energy, his horoscopes, and avocado picnics during our annual ski trip. Our girls are 19 and 23 but they talk of "Uncle Ricky" often and have talked about carrying on his Christmas Eve Santa phone call tradition. He is missed.

I got to thinking of my old friend, Rick, and decided to look for him. I am just stunned to hear of his passing. Extremely sad for this loss. I met Rick at Bogart's in about 1979 and we became fast friends. I spent many hours at his home, relaxing with him and his cat, Puka. Puka became a touchstone for us, as we would meet over the years (decades). Sort of a private code of sorts. I last saw Rick at Fish Dance so long ago. He always remembered everything about me. He was a special and treasured person.
I will always remember him.
May peace come to all who love Rick.

Breaks my heart! We had such great times in college! I spent many hours on the back of his motorcycle! I will miss him!

Our immediate neighborhood is like a little community we keep an eye out for each other-Rick was an integral part of our daily lives. If we didn't see him outside for a day or so, someone would go to the door (always open) and call Rick, are you in there? is everything OK? yah, I'm here; DeeDee would stop by after work as she walked her dog and call his name Rick? he'd come out and they'd have a nice chat.
I met Rick in 1981 when he moved into the townhouse just across the lawn. He always had a kind word: whether it was to comment on how nice my little flower garden looked and how he enjoyed seeing me out there working away at it; or commenting to Gloria on how smart her 9-yr-old granddaughter was; or advising Richard or Kathy or Raphael that Sprouts had chicken breasts on sale; it seems as though he was always outside on some sort of a mission' looking after his plethora of plants or finding space for more until they spilled out into every conceivable space out front I would just shake my head, smile, and think, yup, that's Rick alright'.
I look over at his townhouse expecting to see him and I cannot believe he's not there! Rick was my friend, our neighborhood will never be the same I will miss him.
